The Allen County Highway Department informs motorists of a changing traffic pattern on the west side of the county. Beginning June 3, 2026, Washington Center Road will stop for O'Day Road, turning the intersection into an All-Way Stop.

Remember, “first to arrive, first to go” means the vehicle that arrives and stops first at the intersection has the right-of-way. Always yield to pedestrians.

All our inspectors will be wearing a shirt with Wayne Township clearly marked and have their county ID badges with them. If you have any questions, please call the office at 260-449-7173.

Allen County has been hit by many thunderstorms this spring, which can lead to overflowing creeks and rivers.

This month’s Flood Tip from FEMA Federal Emergency Management Agency is: Get Flood Insurance. They provide detailed information about how you can protect your home and property from unexpected flooding at www.floodsmart.gov.

Flood insurance is available to anyone living in one of more than 22,000 participating National Flood Insurance Program communities – of which Allen County is included. Homes and businesses in high-risk flood areas with mortgages from government-backed lenders are required to have flood insurance.

Learn if you live in a flood risk zone. Call the Allen County Surveyor’s Office at 260-449-7625 to find out! Learn more at https://www.allencounty.in.gov/902/Flood-Hazards-Insurance

The Allen County Commissioners declare that today is Apraxia Awareness Day in Allen County!

May 14th also marks National Apraxia Day, which raises awareness about Childhood Apraxia of Speech (CAS), a neurological disorder that affects the ability to plan and sequence the motor movements needed for speech and is among the most severe speech disorders in children, affecting approximately 1 in 1,000.

The Commissioners were delighted to meet Alex Augustyniak who, although living with CAS, brings joy to his resiliency and determination to communicate. They recognize the effort and support of the entire family, including big brothers Benny and David, who help Alex find his voice.

Special thanks to mom, Jackie Augustyniak, godmother Ashley Martin, the Allen County Commissioners and Mayor Sharon Tucker who all helped make today special.
