Congratulations to these gentlemen to be the first batch for the new district! We’re all excited to see what the future brings!

On November 16th, 2023, these 6 men (along with one other) have offically accepted a position with the Northwest Allen County Fire Protection District. During the district’s monthly meeting, they were all introduced to the board of trustees with a recommendation to hire from the command staff. The motion to accept hire was passed unanimously. They will start with the district on the first of 2024. We are excited for all 7 of them and the future that lies ahead. Their swearing in and badge pinning will take place in January, 2024, in the presence of their family and friends.

This morning, our crews joined Huntertown Fire/Northwest Fire District for the start of a small event by shaving today, and letting the mustaches flow for the entire month of November! November is Mens Health Awareness month. This means bringing attention to various health effects that often go unnoticed for men across the globe (mental health, cancers, etc.) that you will find in the flyer below. We’ve also partnered with by starting a fundraiser for this international foundation and making it a friendly competition between the two departments to raise the most money. Every dollar goes straight to the foundation.

Here is to Ret. Battalion Chief Mike Aker. When one family hurts, we all hurt. Our thoughts and prayers go out to the Aker Family and the brothers and sisters of the Fort Wayne Fire Department.

As potential dangerous weather approaches, let’s remember a few things.
1. Make sure you are in a safe place, meaning an interior room without windows. A basement if possible is the best option. (No, outside in your vehicle is not a safe alternative.) If you are in a vehicle and cannot get to a safe structure, overpasses are not the safe option. A ditch is your safer option, but not the safest. (Standing under trees is also off limits.)

2. Have a meeting place for you and your family in case you become separated.

3. Make sure you have the essentials such as food, bottled water, portable phone chargers, medical supplies, etc.

4. The 911 system is likely to be stressed so please be patient with us while we make your way to all emergency situations. There are plans to have crews on standby at our department and others across the county to tackle this event so please do not panic.

5. With this being said, please only call 911 for true emergencies. That is including but is not limited your house being on fire, your house has collapsed, power lines are down (not because your power went out,) medical EMERGENCIES (not because you missed your dentist appointment and need a cavity filled,) and anything else you believe would require Police, the Fire Department, or Emergency Medical Services.

6. Overall, your safety is our top priority. If you have questions, call your local fire department or weather station for information on how to prepare for this weather event.

DANGEROUS WIND CHILL | We've talked a lot about the snow, but we're at the stage now where just as much emphasis, if not more, needs to be placed on the wind chill.

By Friday morning, it will feel like -25º to -35º. With gusts between 45-55 mph, air temperatures of -3º to 5º won't really be relevant. With these expected wind chill values frostbite could set in within 10 minutes.

Low wind chills below -20º will persist through Christmas Day.

Winter is upon us, with temperatures dipping into the teens this week. It's important to remember to stay safe when using alternative heating sources in your home. Keep space heaters away from curtains, furniture, and other flammable materials, and never leave them unattended. Keep an eye on your fireplace and make sure it's properly ventilated. Stay warm and safe this winter!
