NACSW's mission is to equip its members to integrate Christian faith and professional social work practice. To fulfill its mission, NACSW offers a wide range of services and benefits to its approximately 1,700 individual and organizational members. NACSW is an interdenominational and international organization which grew out of a series of annual conferences beginning in 1950. In 1954, NACSW was i

ncorporated in the state of Illinois as the Evangelical Social Work Conference. In 1956, the association was renamed the National Association of Christian Social Work, and in 1957, the name was changed to the National Association of Christians in Social Work. Finally, in 1983, the association adopted its present name, the North American Association of Christians in Social Work in recognition of its members living in Canada.

The Board of the North American Association of Christians in Social Work (NACSW) is pleased to announce Kesslyn Brade Stennis PhD, MDiv, MSW as its Interim Executive Director.

Kesslyn, a long-standing member of NACSW, comes to the organization’s helm after serving in various board leadership positions in NACSW, as well as leadership positions in the broader social work profession. Most recently, she has been the Director of the Minority Fellowship Program at the Council on Social Work Education (CSWE). She has amassed 25 years of experience in social work education at a variety of Christian and public, minority- and majority- serving institutions. Prior to serving at CSWE, she held the rank of Chair and Full Professor of Social Work and served as Director of the Dr. Dorthy I. Height Center for the Advancement of Social Justice at Coppin State University. Along with holding a Ph.D. in Social Work, Master of Divinity degree, and Graduate Certificate in Women’s studies from Howard University, she also earned a Master of Social Work degree from the Ohio State University and is a proud graduate of Oakwood College (now Oakwood University). Kesslyn’s career includes direct practice, macro practice, grant-writing, publishing, chaplaincy, and entrepreneurial endeavors, and the Board is excited to have her serve NACSW in this capacity.

Kesslyn will be conducting a virtual meeting for the NACSW membership. She will share her immediate vision for NACSW, and you have the opportunity to ask her questions. Look for an announcement to come shortly. Welcome Kesslyn, we are thrilled that you help further NACSW’s mission to be a vital Christian presence in social work!

Happy Mental Health Awareness Month! Thank you social workers for constantly pouring into our society the worth and dignity of people who are overcoming mental health challenges.

The CDC tells us that more than 1 in 5 US adults live with mental illness. Be kind to yourself, don’t be afraid to ask for resources, and let’s continue to break the stigma by researching and educating one another!

We are still accepting submissions!
We invite you to submit a proposal for a workshop or poster presentation at NACSW’s upcoming convention from November 9-12, 2023. NACSW’s Convention 2023 will offer participation both:
1. Onsite in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania at the DoubleTree by Hilton Pittsburgh Greentree
AND
2. Virtual (live remote)

Special content is welcomed in areas such as spirituality and religion, international social work, social justice and advocacy, and work with a wide array of populations and critical social issues.
