TATE T**A TRIBAL SCHOOL AND WARWICK PUBLIC SCHOOL RECEIVE 2026 TREES AWARD

Tate T**a Tribal School and Warwick Public School were awarded the 2026 "Tree Celebration" Trees Award at the Trees Bowl and Awards Ceremony held in Fargo on August 29, 2026. Nominations were received from across the state, and the award winners were recognized by the North Dakota Forest Service and North Dakota State University.

The Natural Resource Conservation Service in collaboration with partner agencies including Spirit Lake Tribal Realty, North Dakota Forest Service, North Central Soil Conservation District, & NDSU Extension held Earth Day & Arbor Day activities at Tate T**a Tribal School Orchard on Thursday, May 14, 2026. The day involved activities with over 120 students from Tate T**a Tribal School and Warwick Public School. These students (and about 40 volunteers) spent their time learning about the land, including sessions and demonstrations on windbreaks, machine planting of seedlings, and their benefits to wildlife. The students and volunteers planted 40 large fruit deciduous trees, creating food for the future for the school and community—and another 40 conifer trees to build up the shelterbelt rows to protect the site from wind.

During the awards ceremony, NDSU President Marshall Stewart and State Forester Tom Claeys presented each winner with a special Trees Awards plaque. The award winners were also recognized on the field during the NDSU half-time activities at the winning Trees Bowl football game in the Fargodome.

Our Youth, Our Future Survey to Be Conducted at Tate T**a Tribal School

On 9/23/2026 students in grades 6th-8th will begin taking the Our Youth, Our Future survey in cooperation with the Tri-Ethnic Center for Prevention Research at Colorado State University. The funding for the administration of the survey comes from a federal grant awarded to the Tri-Ethnic Center, which allows the survey to be conducted at no cost to the school. Participation in this survey is voluntary, anonymous, and confidential.

Parents or guardians who wish to withdraw their child from participating may do so by contacting Principal Byron Engberg at (701) 766-1400 or [email protected]. In addition, a copy of the survey is available from the school office for parents or guardians who would like to review it. Tate T**a Tribal School believes that students’ participation in this survey will assist the school in planning, funding, and evaluating drug and alcohol prevention programs.
