NOTICE:

Work has begun on the North Shore beach access road for the Fort Thompson Water Intake Structure project. The North Shore beach access road will be closed until the completion of the project.

Expect increased heavy equipment and truck traffic moving in and out of the site along North Shore beach access road and Highway 47.

If you would like to utilize Fallen Warrior Field, access will be available via the west parking lot off North Shore Road.

It's another Throwback Thursday at Big Bend. Today, we're throwing it back through the years to some of the many opportunities we've had to connect with our communities and share our passion for water safety, recreation and stewardship.

At the Big Bend Project, we take our role in educating the public seriously. Whether we're talking about staying safe on or around the water, enjoying our recreation areas responsibly, or being good stewards of our natural resources.

We're also grateful for the many agencies, organizations and community partners who have joined us over the years to share that same passion.

As the saying goes, all good things must come to an end…

The 2026 recreation season at Left Tailrace Campground has officially come to a close. We’re not crying… you’re crying.

But there’s good news! Only 212 days until Left Tailrace Campground opens again!

Until then, we’ll just be over here counting down the days and dreaming about campfires, river views, and another great summer at Left Tailrace.

Thank you to everyone who camped, visited, and made memories with us this season. We’ll see you in 2027!

Have you heard of the 90-day weather rule? Folklore says that when you have a foggy day, you can expect some form of precipitation about 90 days later.

If that's true, our recent foggy mornings around the Big Bend Project could mean Mother Nature has plenty of moisture in store for us as we wrap up 2026.

Two Truths and a Lie - Big Bend Edition

1️⃣ The drainage gallery is the lowest level of the powerhouse and is 109 feet below Lake Sharpe.

2️⃣ Lake Sharpe's shoreline length is approximately 200 miles.

3️⃣ Left Tailrace Campground has a secret floating campsite that can only be accessed by boat. To earn a chance to reserve it, campers must successfully recite all 50 state capitals.
