And the 2026 Merchants & Music headliner is…🥁

TOAD THE WET SPROCKET!

For more than 30 years, Toad the Wet Sprocket has remained one of the most iconic bands of ‘90s alternative rock era. The Santa Barbara quartet broke into the mainstream with their platinum-selling album Fear, featuring hit singles “All I Want” and “Walk on the Ocean” before following it up with another platinum record, Dulcinea, which included fan favorites “Fall Down” and “Windmills”. Their music has been featured in countless films and television shows including Buffy the Vampire Slayer, Dawson’s Creek, Empire Records, and Friends.

Known for their heartfelt songwriting, signature harmonies, and unforgettable live shows, Toad the Wet Sprocket continues to connect generations of fans nearly 40 years after forming. With the recent release of Rings: The Acoustic Sessions and a 2026 tour celebrating the band’s 40th anniversary, the group continues to prove why their music remains timeless.

Toad the Wet Sprocket will be taking the Merchants & Music stage Saturday, September 19 at 9pm. Check out www.merchantsandmusic.com for more details. Merchants & Music is a FREE festival to attend.

Members of the Fort Thomas Tree Commission, the Fort Thomas Forest Conservancy, a few volunteers, and staff, were busy planting flower plugs near the Landmark Tree Trail head last week. 🌸

There are a lot of invasives and undesirable understory, and these plugs were placed to beautify your trails. The species were carefully chosen and paid for by our Tree Commission and the collective efforts will soon pay off.

These are the community efforts that make Fort Thomas and its parks, second to none. Thanks again to all those who helped in this effort; not only those in attendance, but also behind the scenes!

We have exciting news, Fort Thomas! 🌳☀

The Highland Hills Park playground is getting a complete makeover this June! The project will include brand-new equipment and a safer, more accessible, pour-in-place surface. The playground surfacing is made possible through funding from the Kentucky Waste Tire Program, which helps turn old tires into eco-friendly, tire-derived playground surfacing. We want to give a big thank you to Team Kentucky for supporting this project.

We can't wait to see families enjoy the new playground soon. Work will begin in early June. Stay tuned for updates!

Learn more about the 2026 Northern Kentucky Music Legends Hall of Fame inductees! 🎶

Mike Reeder - Mike founded Mike’s Music 27 years ago from his basement and has since grown it into one of the world’s leading vintage guitar stores, working with legendary musicians, appearing in major publications, and serving as a musical instrument appraiser and interviewer for PBS/KET’s Kentucky Collectibles.

Mark Cormican - Mark began playing guitar in his senior year of high school and has been playing coast to coast for 50 years. In addition to the John Denver Tribute concerts, Mark has performed for 40 years at wineries, restaurants, theaters and other venues across the country.

Doghouse - Doghouse has been electrifying the Tri‑State since 2000, founded by Dick Stewart (guitar/vocals), Ric Thelen (bass/vocals), singer Chuck Davis, and drummer Paul Riesenberg. Doghouse has opened for major acts such as Styx, 38 Special, Eddie Money, and Foreigner.

Ben Walz - Ben has been performing in the Greater Cincinnati area since 1993. Ben has also been a preferred performer of the Cincinnati Reds for the past 20 years where he has sung the National Anthem and God Bless America as part of their broadcasts.

Wayne Luessen - Wayne bought his first good electric guitar, a Fender Duosonic, in the 60s and used it in several rock bands. He spent 25 years teaching music at Yealey Elementary. From the 60s to now, he is still performing with multiple bands.

Steve Popovich - The beginnings of my professional career began at the beautiful Florida Entertainment Emporium called Seville Quarter. Some achievements are his scholarship to The University of Kentucky, being the studio musician for the top 40 rock band Spectrum and The Good Neighbor Award from The Pensacola News.

Danny Sidebottom, NKYMLHOF Lifetime Achievement Award - Danny was a popular local musician for about 50 years until he sadly passed in January 2024. He loved to play guitar and sing at the Gatehouse Tavern in Fort Mitchell.
