3rd Infantry Division History:
The 3rd Infantry Division, nicknamed the "Rock of the Marne," was established in 1917, and is known for its extensive combat history. It earned its' nickname for a heroic stand during the Second Battle of the Marne in World War I, and has since fought in World War II, the Korean War, and Operation Iraqi Freedom and New Dawn, among others. The division was the first U.S. conventional unit to enter Baghdad in 2003, and has earned more Medal of Honor recipients than any other division.
