Hi there,

Today, I’m thrilled to share a closer look at another exciting feature of the we’re building on the South Side of Chicago.

In keeping with Mrs. Obama’s Obama healthy eating initiatives and the White House Kitchen Garden she launched during her time as First Lady, there will be a Fruit & Vegetable Garden on the Center’s campus.

Like any great garden, there will be planting beds for seasonal produce and a picnic area for friends and families to gather. There will also be a Garden Classroom & Teaching Kitchen where visitors of all ages and abilities will be able to participate in hands-on workshops to learn how to grow, harvest, and prepare fresh fruits and vegetables.

Click here to see more of the garden, and to find out the trailblazer for whom this enriching space will be named.

The Center's community-driven design will draw visitors from around the world and put the South Side of Chicago on a global stage. I can't wait for you to see it.

—Valerie

Chief Executive Officer,

From our earliest days of planning, we always knew we wanted to have a Fruit & Vegetable Garden at the future Obama Presidential Center. This living, growing, vibrant space will continue the work Mrs. Obama first started at the White House—where the Kitchen Garden she planted on the South Lawn spa...

Hi there,

In an increasingly globalized world, forging connections is more important than ever. We know that young leaders with a passion for public service will be the ones to bridge divides and set a better course for our future. And that means we need to do everything we can to nurture their talents and curiosity.

In service of that mission, we’re so pleased to announce we’ve teamed up with Brian Chesky, CEO, to create something really special: the .

On the surface, Brian and I might not seem all that similar. He was born in New York; I was born in Hawai'i. He’s a tech founder; I’m not. But we have more in common than most people realize. Both of us traveled unlikely paths to get where we are today. I grew up in Hawai'i and Indonesia, raised by a single mom, and worked as a constitutional law professor before getting into politics. Brian’s parents were social workers and he went to design school. But both of our parents instilled in us the importance of helping others from a very young age.

Michelle, Brian, and I all share the belief that connection doesn’t just enrich our own lives—it helps communities come together, forge common bonds, and solve big problems. It’s why Michelle and I started the Obama Foundation—to bring together the next generation of leaders and help them build connections and learn from each other. And it’s why we couldn’t be more excited about the Voyager Scholarship.

For so many young people who want to pursue public service, financial obstacles stand in the way. That’s why the Voyager Scholarship helps students with financial aid, meaningful travel experiences to expand their horizons, and a network of leaders who can support them.

I hope you’ll take a moment to discover what the is all about. Applications are open now until June 14 to rising juniors in the United States—so please help us spread the word to eligible undergraduate students.

As we’re seeing around the world, we can’t take democracy, or tolerance, or progress for granted. We have to work for it. And that means supporting the individuals who want to be forces for good.

Carlton Philadelphia, a National Security Council staffer, brought his wife and two sons to the Oval Office for a departure photo. Carlton’s older son, Isaac, asked me a few questions about policy, but a more surprising question came from his younger brother, five-year-old Jacob.

“Is your hair like mine?” he asked.

It wasn’t the kind of question a president gets every day.

So, I bent down and told him, “Go ahead, touch it.”

He replied, “Yeah, I think that’s pretty much what I’ve got. ”

White House photographer Pete Souza captured that moment and for years the photo hung in the halls of the West Wing. It was a reminder of one of the reasons I first ran for president: that if I were to win, young people—Black kids, Hispanic kids, kids who may not have always felt like they belonged—might see more possibilities for their own future.

It’s hard to believe 13 years have passed. Today, Jacob will graduate high school and continue on to the University of Memphis to study political science. And I couldn’t be more proud of him.

We recently reconnected to reflect on that moment and his journey since then: Check out our reunion here.

Congratulations, Jacob, and best of luck to the Class of 2022.

— Barack

Then five-year-old Jacob Philadelphia is graduating high school as part of the class of 2022. Watch his reunion with President Obama.

it's Gary. I just finished looking over the May fundraising report that was pulled about an hour ago from my team at the Democratic Senatorial Campaign Committee, and I'm really worried. You see, Mitch McConnell's allies have already raised more than $100 MILLION to take back the Senate.

I knew that GOP fundraising would be ramping up this cycle after we narrowly won the majority in 2020. But they're scaling up their fundraising even faster than I anticipated, and if we want any chance of defending our Democratic Senate majority, we must respond now and hit our goals!

With a razor-thin majority, Democrats really cannot let Republicans outpace our fundraising. We're already playing defense in way too many states: My friends Sen. Warnock in Georgia, Sen. Kelly in Arizona and Sen. Cortez Masto in Nevada are running in incredibly tight "toss-up" races

Show your support with a contribution.

– When I was President of Planned Parenthood, I learned a crucial lesson about anti-choice extremists: They want activists like you and me to sit down, shut up, and give up – because they’re TERRIFIED of our power if we act together.

They desperately want us to sit silently, obediently as the Supreme Court rolls back women’s rights 50 years and puts GOP politicians in control of our bodies and health care. They want us to surrender the Senate, so they can pass a nationwide abortion ban punishing women from coast to coast. Well, that is NOT going to happen – we’re ready to fight like hell to stop them!

We have the power to save our Democratic Senate majority and women’s rights – but only if we step up for leaders like Catherine Cortez Masto in Nevada right now! Her race will decide Senate control, but she’s 3 points behind in the polls, and Mitch McConnell and his super PAC are spending $18 MILLION on attack ads against her. She needs to hit her emergency goal tonight or it will be too late.

That’s why I promised Catherine I would help hit her emergency goal before tonight’s deadline. And Robert, I'm personally counting on you to split a $5 donation right now between Catherine and Jacky Rosen. We all need to step up TODAY to help Catherine punch back against McConnell’s attacks, save our Senate, and save women’s rights! >>

Activists like you, me, and Catherine have been warning for so long about the Supreme Court overturning Roe v. Wade. I yelled it from the rooftops when I was President of Planned Parenthood – but Republicans called us ‘hysterical’ and told us to be quiet.

We didn’t back down then, and we sure as hell won’t back down now.

Let’s show them our power, together. Please, Robert, join me in stepping up for Catherine today so she can save the Senate and women’s rights. I promise we can win this fight if we take action now. >>

Thank you,

Cecile Richards

Donate now to help Democrats win in key battleground races across the country! Only with your grassroots donations will we be able to build a movement strong enough to keep the Senate blue and defend the progress for which we’ve fought so hard.
