Wonderful!!

Executive Director Tim Hearn and Director of Communications Brian Weindel had the privilege of presenting the Director’s Life Saving Award to Emergency Medical Dispatcher Lakota Bohanan for an extraordinary act of service.

Lakota recently provided calm, expert guidance to a 911 caller, instructing them through CPR during a sudden cardiac arrest. Because of those lifesaving instructions, the patient survived and has since been discharged home to continue recovery.

This is what dedication, skill, and compassion look like—making a difference when every second counts.

This is very special.

Today, we honor one of the most influential figures in nursing history — Florence Nightingale, remembered around the world as “The Lady with the Lamp.” 🕯️

Born on May 12, 1820, Florence Nightingale transformed nursing during one of history’s most difficult times. During the Crimean War, she walked hospital halls late into the night caring for wounded soldiers, bringing comfort, compassion, and hope to those suffering.

But her impact went far beyond the lamp she carried.

She helped establish higher standards in patient care, sanitation, organization, and nursing education — shaping the future of modern healthcare and inspiring generations of nurses across the world.

Today, her legacy continues through every nurse who works long shifts, comforts families, advocates for patients, and serves with dedication even during the most challenging moments.

As we celebrate National Nurses Week, the Rio Grande Valley Nurse Honor Guard proudly honors the guiding light she left behind — a profession rooted in service, humanity, and care.
