We’ve put this out in the past, but we thought we’d share it again.

Our Office would like to remind all citizens of Ohio’s Fireworks Laws. Please click the link below for more information about when fireworks can be discharged, as well as additional rules and regulations associated with the discharge of fireworks.

We ask that you DO NOT call 9-1-1 to simply report someone for using fireworks. If you would like to report someone using fireworks outside of the allotted time, please call our non-emergency line at 419-586-7724.

9-1-1 should ONLY be used in emergencies.

With summer here, we have seen some extra lights on vehicles, particularly golf carts and UTV’s. Flashing lights are prohibited on your personal use vehicles, including golf carts and UTV’s, except as a means for indicating a right or a left turn, or your hazard lights for safety. It is a good idea to avoid using red and blue lights even if they are not flashing. Let's have a safe and fun summer.

🔥 – CHARGING E-BIKES INSIDE YOUR HOME? THINK AGAIN.

That e-bike battery charging in the corner…
-can overheat
-can go into thermal runaway
-can release toxic, flammable gases

And when it ignites—
⚠️ it spreads FAST and is hard to control.

⚠️ WHAT MAKES IT DANGEROUS:
• Lithium-ion batteries can fail without warning
• Fires can reignite even after being put out
• Produces thick, toxic smoke

✔ DO THIS:
• Charge in a well-ventilated area (preferably outside or near an exit)
• Use original/approved chargers only
• Place on a hard, non-flammable surface (concrete/tile)
• Stay nearby while charging
• Install smoke alarms near charging areas

❌ DON’T DO THIS:
• Don’t charge inside bedrooms or near sleeping areas
• Don’t leave charging overnight or unattended
• Don’t charge near curtains, wood, or clutter
• Don’t use damaged or swollen batteries
• Don’t block your exit with charging equipment

💡 REMEMBER:
An e-bike fire isn’t like a normal fire—
👉 it can explode, spread fast, and fill your home with toxic smoke in seconds.

🔥 Charge smart. Stay alert. Stay alive.

Darke County Sheriff Mark Whittaker would like to remind citizens that the spring planting season is about to begin and farm tractors, equipment and machinery are moving on our roadways. Please pay attention, be patient and slow down as our local agriculture producers do their work. Darke County is a top agriculturally-producing county in our State and nationally. It is an important part of our economy and we are proud of our Darke County Farmers and what they do. Let's do our part to keep everyone safe.

The men and women of the Darke County Sheriff's Office wish everyone a safe planting season!
