Developing the future healthcare workforce happens one clinical experience—and one mentor—at a time.

Approximately 30 military and civilian students complete clinical rotations at Bayne-Jones Army Community Hospital each year through academic partnerships and Army medical training programs.

Among them this month were physician assistant students Miya Browning and Tayler Hooper from Franciscan Missionaries of Our Lady University, who completed their required pediatric clinical rotation alongside BJACH pediatricians and other members of the healthcare team.

These partnerships provide future healthcare professionals with hands-on clinical experience while creating opportunities for BJACH clinicians to teach, mentor and remain engaged with the next generation of providers.

As Maj. Benjamin H. Tan, chief of the Department of Pediatrics, explained:

“Teaching students requires staying on top of your own education. Students that rotate with us bring a new energy and spark.”

For a small, rural military hospital, education is another way BJACH contributes to the healthcare workforce—military and civilian—well beyond our walls.

📅 MARK YOUR CALENDAR: BJACH Organizational Day

Have an appointment, prescription pickup or other health care need coming up? Please plan ahead.

BJACH outpatient and ancillary services will close at noon Thursday, Sept. 3, for Organizational Day. This includes the Outpatient Pharmacy, Primary Care, Fontaine Troop Medical Clinic, outpatient Laboratory and Radiology services, Dental clinics, Physical and Occupational Therapy, and other outpatient services.

The Emergency Department, inpatient wards and Labor, Delivery, Recovery and Postpartum will remain open.

Patients experiencing telephone issues are encouraged to use the MHS GENESIS Patient Portal to:

• Request prescription refills

Strong health care starts with strong teams.

Joseph “Chris” Rheney, chief of the Army Medical Department Civilian Corps and a member of the Senior Executive Service, recently visited Bayne-Jones Army Community Hospital to share leadership lessons with Team BJACH.

His message focused on learning, leading, empowering and developing people — principles that directly support the way we care for Soldiers, Families and beneficiaries every day.

When leaders listen, communicate expectations, develop talent, recognize expertise and give teammates opportunities to grow, it strengthens the entire health care team and ultimately improves the care we provide.

“The leadership principles are universal, the tools are different,” Rheney said. “For us to be an effective team, we all need to lead by listening better, treating everyone the same and giving each other our very best.”
