Delta Troop 1-509th

Delta Troop 1-509th Delta Troop is the Army’s only Armored Airborne Cavalry unit.

This page is dedicated to the soldiers and their families who serve or have served with the organization 1-509th Parachute Infantry Battalion serves as the premiere Opposition Force (OPFOR) to rotational units at the Joint Readiness Training Center, Fort Polk, LA. Delta Troop provides the Armor, Cavalry, and Air Defense capabilities for the battalion, in addition to other roles.

From Chaplain Kelly: On 19 August (this Wednesday) there will be a Marriage Enrichment at the Geronimo Resiliency Center. The topic for the class is, "How to argue well". Conflict resolution for any couple can be difficult, and this class will give you some insight on how to work at solving conflict with your spouse in a healthy way. The class starts at 6PM and should last about 1 hour. Kids are welcome and I have a movie playing and toys for the Kids.

Aug. 8: "Back-to-school Bash" from 10 a.m.-2 p.m. on the Allen Memorial Library lawn and Splash Park. Lots of fun for the kids including laser tag, free hot dogs, a magician and balloon artist. Call 531-9734 for more info.

Aug. 14: "Spirit of 45" tribute honoring veterans is held at 11 a.m. at the Central Louisiana Veterans Cemetery Leesville. Costumes are encouraged to represent patriotic dress during the 1940s. Call 238-6405.

Therefore please plan to be in front of the DTRP area/parking lot NLT 0945. 1SG Dumond will be showing families the way to the drop zone if you would like to follow so please look for him! -BJACH
1. There is an Unused or Expired Med take back box in the Pharmacy area. They ask that you please keep the meds in the original packaging.
2. In addition to the online training, there is now over the counter medication training in the BJACH pharmacy area. Over the Counter Medication training booklets are available from the Pharmacy windows. Please ask someone at one of the windows for the booklet. To read though the slides and take the test takes approximately 10 minutes. Once through, get a ticket to join the queue to request your OTC meds.

-PX/Commissary
1. The deli and bakery have returned to the commissary. The sign at the Sushi Station says they will return by July 14. It could be sooner, depending on supply. The contract hours for the Deli/Bakery/Sushi are 9:30am - 6pm.
2. Boston Market will NOT be coming to the PX Food Court. They are still hopeful that Jimmie Johns will be moving in. They are still investigating having a Mexican restaurant move in as well.
3. Burger King will begin renovations in August. They will be open during the remodel. Depending what they are working on will depend whether the inside or drive thru is open. They will be removing the indoor playground permanently.
4. The Clothing Sales Store will begin selling the new ACU's July 1st.
5. "You Made the Grade" program: Elementary through high school children can bring in their A-B Honor Roll report cards for coupon books and giveaways.
6. Class Six will begin renovations in August. No news on the effect of business hours.
-Social and Environmental Working Group
1. Fort Polk Progress and Vernon Parish Schools will hold another “Cafeteria Conversations” on July 28th from 5:00 - 7:00 pm at North Polk Elementary. This is a chance for parents and students to come and learn more about the different schools in Vernon Parish. There will be school administrators and counselors from the schools available to answer any questions. There will also be community resources available as well. This event is open to all; not just students planning on going to Vernon Parish schools, but for home school students and private schools as well. A flyer will go shortly.
3. Teen Resilience Training, July 27 - July 31st from 9:00 - 12:00. Please see flyer for more information.
4. The Community Information Fair will be on August 5th at 9:00 at the WCC.
