Members of the Fort Plain Volunteer Fire Department recently completed Bail Out Training provided by Calderwood Training Solutions. This important hands-on training focused on emergency self-rescue techniques that firefighters may need to utilize in rapidly changing and dangerous fire conditions.

Bail out training provides firefighters with the knowledge, confidence, and practical skills necessary to safely exit a structure when traditional escape routes are no longer available. Training like this enhances firefighter safety, improves preparedness, and reinforces the department’s commitment to protecting both our members and the community we proudly serve.

We would like to thank Calderwood for providing this valuable instruction and our members for their continued dedication to training, professionalism, and service. Continuous training remains a critical part of ensuring our firefighters are prepared to respond safely and effectively when our community needs us most.

It is with great sadness that the members of the Fort Plain Volunteer Fire Department announce the passing of longtime volunteer William E. Fuelleman.

Bill proudly served our department and community for more than 60 years, dedicating countless hours in service to others and embodying the true spirit of volunteerism. His commitment, loyalty, and brotherhood will never be forgotten.

We thank Bill for his decades of dedication and service to the Fort Plain community. He will forever be remembered by all who had the honor of serving alongside him.

Our deepest condolences are with his family, friends, and fellow firefighters during this difficult time.

Rest in Peace, Bill.

The Fort Plain Volunteer Fire Department would like to extend our sincere gratitude to the Adam & Nellie Horn Foundation for their generous support.

Thanks to this invaluable funding, we were able to purchase new SCBA masks for our firefighters. These masks are now assigned to individual users, providing greater consistency, improved safety, and increased familiarity for our members when operating in critical situations.

This enhancement would not have been possible without the Foundation’s commitment to supporting first responders and the safety of our community.

On behalf of our entire department, thank you for your continued generosity and dedication.

Our thoughts and condolences are with Dispatcher Shang's family, friends and colleagues. He was a true public servant with a heart of gold. It was always a pleasure working with him.

Thank you for your service, RIP!

It is with deep sadness that we share the passing of 911 Dispatcher Rob Shang.

Rob dedicated 27 years to the Montgomery County Sheriff’s Office, serving our community with professionalism, compassion, and a steady voice when it mattered most. Prior to rejoining us full time, Rob served with the Amsterdam Fire Department, where he retired a few years ago, and continued his service as a current member of the Cranesville Volunteer Fire Department, where he served as Second Assistant Chief.

If you ever heard Rob on the radio, you knew exactly who you were talking to, calm, reliable, and always there when you needed him.
Beyond the headset, Rob was a friend to many. He was known for his smile, his sense of humor, and the way he treated everyone like family.

Rob leaves behind his parents Deborah and Bob, wife, Nicole, a paramedic with our EMS Division, their daughter Alena, his children Ashlee and Thomas, and his brother Mike, who serves as a Sergeant in our Investigations Division.

Our thoughts are with his entire family, his friends, and all who had the privilege to work alongside him.

Rest easy, Rob. We’ve got it from here.

🍀 St. Patrick’s Day is right around the corner! 🍀

As you celebrate with friends and family, please remember to enjoy the holiday responsibly. Don’t rely on the luck of the Irish to get you home safely—or to keep you from needing the assistance of the Fire Department or other first responders.

Plan ahead. Designate a sober driver, call for a ride, or make arrangements to stay where you are if needed. A little planning can make the difference between a great celebration and a preventable emergency.

Have fun, celebrate safely, and let’s keep this St. Patrick’s Day a safe one for everyone. 🚒🍀
