Heathcote Botanical Gardens consists of an assortment of specialty gardens including a Japanese Garden, Reflection Garden, Children's Garden, Community Vegetable Garden, Rain-forest Display, Native Plants Garden, and a Palm & Cycad Walk. Through this type of garden design, you will sense the intimacy of this unique botanical garden. Gracing the areas in between these specialty gardens are borders

of flowering shrubs, bulbs, trees, vines, and other assorted herbaceous plants. Niches found throughout the garden provide varied micro-climates, which allows the use of a wide variety of plants ranging from those found in Mediterranean climates to the Tropics. Come experience our pollinator display! Well known for our large variety of butterflies and bees on the property, we are considered a safe haven for the rare Atala butterfly. Home of the largest public Tropical BONSAI collection in the U.S. - The James J. Smith Bonsai Gallery, featuring 100 bonsai trees on permanent display.

Have you discovered the American Beautyberry (Callicarpa americana) at Heathcote Botanical Gardens? This Florida native is hard to miss when its clusters of vibrant purple berries appear along the stems! 👀✨

🌱 A few fun facts:
💜 The berries grow in tight clusters right along the stems—not just at the tips.
🦋 Beautyberry provides food and habitat for wildlife, including birds and small mammals.
🌿 It’s native to the southeastern United States and is well adapted to Florida’s warm climate.
🐦 Those brilliant berries may look like little jewels, but they’re an important seasonal food source for wildlife.

🦗👀 LOOK WHO WE FOUND HANGING OUT AT HEATHCOTE! 🌿

Talk about blending in! We spotted this Florida Giant Katydid taking a little break in the Gardens—and what a fascinating garden visitor! 🌱🦗

A few fun facts:
🌿 Katydids are related to grasshoppers and crickets.
👂 Believe it or not, katydids have tiny ears located on their front legs!
🎶 Males make their famous “songs” by rubbing their wings together to attract females.
🍃 Their leafy green appearance is excellent camouflage, helping them disappear right before your eyes.

And this is your friendly reminder: keep your eyes open when you visit Heathcote! 👀🌺 You never know what you might discover hiding among the leaves, beneath a flower, or quietly hanging out along the garden paths. There are always little wonders waiting to be noticed!
