๐พ Keep Our Pets Safe & Our Community Strong! ๐พ
Did you know that in the city of Fort Pierce, it is unlawful for any animal โ including dogs and cats โ to roam off-leash or โat largeโ within city limits? According to the city code:
โAnimals shall not be allowed outside the confines of their own homes without proper restraint by means of leash, fenced area โฆโ
Hereโs why it matters:
When pets roam free, theyโre at increased risk of getting lost, injured, hit by a vehicle, or causing a disturbance.
Unleashed, unaltered pets can contribute to unwanted litters โ which increases the local pet population and creates more pressure on our shelter system.
More pets in our shelters means fewer resources and less space for those animals who truly need help finding homes.
By keeping your pet leashed and safely secured, youโre doing your part: protecting your pet, protecting your neighbors, and helping our local shelter serve the community more effectively.
๐ก Good to know:
The city is also committed to helping reduce the number of unaltered pets through our low-cost and free spay/neuter program.
If your pet is unspayed/unneutered and roaming, they not only risk unintended litters, but they also risk higher registration/licensing fees and more enforcement issues.
