Tomorrows Leaders Today

Some say leadership is a trait we are born with; others know leadership is a learned skill of leading people and managing material and equipment. Young men and women, 12 to 18 years old may have the privilege of learning that skill by applying themselves to the rigors of Cadet life.

Cadets (and adults whom we call Senior members) who join become members of the US Air Force Auxillary, part of the Air Force’s “Total Force”. Not just because they wear a similar uniform and badges of rank but because they can become a vital part of the Civil Air Patrol’s Aircrew and/or Ground Search and Rescue Team. The CAP is world-famous for their search and rescue efforts and has one of the largest fleets of single-engine piston aircraft in the world. Add to that, hundreds of trained men and women from all walks of life working together in small teams to do searches on the ground. You can be a part of saving a life by learning the skills of a ground or aircrew (seniors only) member.

Being a Cadet is not for everyone but it may be for you; do like learning about aviation, aerospace, S.T.E.M? Do you enjoy military style camping trips (relax Mom & Dad, these are well supervised by vetted and caring adults - like you! we’ll get to that later). Nearly every Monday night, 6:30-pPM, and an occasional Saturday we meet at our squadron for planned activities including control tower visits, aerospace education, S.T.E.M. training, and much more. And a couple of times a year, Cadets may be eligible to attend encampments; a fancy way of saying field training. While these are typically at a military base such as a National Guard base the Cadets typically actually spend a few nights “in the woods” learning their various duties.

Mom and Dad; do you think this sounds like fun? You can join! We have many parents involved in CAP nationally as we do at Treasure Coast Composite Squadron. And if you're a competent pilot you may want to join our aircrew team as a transport or mission pilot. We have other flying position as well that do not require a pilots license.
