๐Ÿ’š๐Ÿช Kindness goes a long way! ๐Ÿช๐Ÿ’š

Local Girl Scouts Troop 10053 spent part of their Sunday giving back to community heroes by visiting the Dogtown Fire Dept with handmade thank-you cards and delicious Girl Scout cookies as part of a special community awareness project.

But their mission of kindness did not stop there โ€” the troop also delivered cards and cookies to the Fort Payne Police Department and the hardworking custodial staff at DeKalb Regional Hospital to show appreciation for all they do behind the scenes.

These young ladies are proving that even small acts of kindness can make a big difference in our communities. โค๏ธ๐Ÿš’๐Ÿ‘ฎโ€โ™‚๏ธ๐Ÿฅ

Big things happening in Dogtown๐Ÿš’๐Ÿ”ฅ

The Dogtown Volunteer Fire Department has been awarded $138,572 through the 2024 Assistance to Firefighters Grant (AFG) program!

This funding will provide 30 complete sets of structural firefighter gear, ensuring that every firefighter has the protection they need to safely serve their community.

Investing in gear is investing in people โ€” keeping firefighters safe, strengthening response capabilities, and protecting the community when it matters most.

Last week, members of Dogtown Fire Department participated in an intensive live fire training exercise. Both seasoned firefighters and our newest recruits had the opportunity to experience the full evolution of fire in a controlled environment.

Crews practiced making entry into a structure, advancing lines for fire suppression, and conducting search and rescue operations for victims. Trainings like this are essential in building confidence, sharpening skills, and ensuring we are always ready to respond when our community needs us most.

We would like to extend a big thank you to Fort Payne Fire Department for assisting with this training.

Every member performed exceptionally well, and we couldnโ€™t be more proud of the dedication, teamwork, and willingness to learn that our firefighters demonstrate each and every day.

๐Ÿš’โค๏ธ The newest member of Dogtown Fire has arrived โค๏ธ๐Ÿš’

Weโ€™re proud to introduce our newest (and smallest) firefighter, Wade Lee Blair, born April 3rd, to parents Holleigh and Dylan. Wade Lee is the first grandson of Chief Jon Burt and his wife, Cherri.

He may be a little too small for turnout gear right now, but we know heโ€™s already got the heart, strength, and spirit that makes Dogtown Fire so special.

Welcome to the family, little one โ€” your crew is ready for you. ๐Ÿ”ฅ

On March 24, 2026, at approximately 1100 hours, the Dogtown Volunteer Fire Department responded to a reported structure fire within our coverage area.

Dogtown Fire Department had 8 members respond, which is a phenomenal daytime turnout for our department. Notably, three of our members left their full-time jobs to answer the call and help ensure the safety and protection of those affected. Their dedication reflects the strong commitment our volunteers have to this community.

We were also assisted by an outstanding mutual aid response from Fort Payne, Tuckers Chapel, Adamsburg, and Collinsville Fire Departments. Together, a total of 26 personnel and 7 apparatus worked collaboratively to bring the incident under control.

We are pleased to report that there were no injuries, and the fire was successfully extinguished quickly.

Dogtown Volunteer Fire Department extends our sincere appreciation to all responding firefighters and mutual aid departments for their professionalism, teamwork, and rapid response. Incidents like this highlight the importance of strong partnerships and unified efforts in protecting our communities.

Our mission at Dogtown Fire Department is to provide the highest level of fire protection, safety, and emergency response services to our community and its residents. We are committed to serving with integrity, dedication, and readiness whenever the need arises.

We are incredibly grateful for the continued support from the residents of our community and the hardworking members who make this department one of the best in DeKalb County. Your trust and encouragement allow us to carry out our mission each and every day.

Respectfully,
Jon Burt, Fire Chief
