50 years of leadership, mentorship, and pure inspiration! 🏀✨

As we continue celebrating the monumental milestones from our inaugural Legacy Awards, we are incredibly honored to spotlight a true legend in The School District of Lee County: Aubrey Daniels!

Currently serving as the Athletics and Activities Director at Dunbar High School, Mr. Daniels is celebrating an incredible 50 YEARS of service.

Talk about a sweeping impact! Over the last five decades, Mr. Daniels has worn almost every hat imaginable, including teacher, assistant principal, acting principal, and mentor. His remarkable career has touched nearly every corner of our district, leaving a lasting legacy at Fort Myers High, Riverdale High, Dunbar Middle, Michigan Elementary, Cypress Lake Middle, Bonita Elementary, the Alternative Learning Center, Lee Middle, and finally, Dunbar High.

Known for his deep humility and passion, he has spent his life proving that "educators touch the future." His influence runs so deep that a former student—who is now a military colonel—recently reached out to thank Mr. Daniels for the life-changing lessons on accountability and positive thinking he learned from him way back in middle school!

Dunbar High Principal Carl Burnside describes him as hardworking, loyal, and deeply committed, with a unique ability to challenge students while showing them ultimate compassion.

Half a century of pure heart, dedication, and love for our children. 💛✨

As we continue celebrating the incredible milestones from our inaugural Legacy Awards, we want to shine a special spotlight on a true icon in The School District of Lee County: Gladys Avila!

Gladys, an Instructional Support Paraprofessional at San Carlos Park Elementary, is celebrating an unbelievable 50 YEARS of service.

Her legendary journey began all the way back in 1975. Over the decades, she became the heartbeat of kindergarten classrooms, a vital voice for students learning English, and a trusted friend to everyone she met. In fact, Gladys loves our students so much that she actually came out of retirement because she simply missed working with children!

Assistant Principal Ashley Laine shares that Gladys is someone the entire school community can count on: a steady source of encouragement, kindness, and patience for generations of Lee County families.

🎬 Watch the video tribute below to see the incredible story of Gladys's 50-year legacy of kindness and care.

A half-century of faith, devotion, and life-changing service. 🕊️✨

Our post-ceremony celebrations for the inaugural Legacy Awards continue as we honor an absolute pillar of our educational community: Harriett Henderson!

Serving as an Academic Advisor and School Counselor at the SW FL Juvenile Detention Center, Ms. Henderson is celebrating an incredible 50 YEARS of service with The School District of Lee County.

Ms. Henderson's distinguished career is rooted in a powerful lifelong creed: "To whom much is given, much is required." Her mission began in 1976 as an English and Language Arts teacher at North Fort Myers High School. From there, her expertise was so trusted that she was selected to help shape the culture and open the doors on the inaugural teams of three major high schools:

🔹 Cape Coral High School (1979)
🔹 Lehigh Senior High School (1993)
🔹 Dunbar High School (2000)

In 2014, her path took a deeply meaningful turn toward specialized advocacy when she transitioned to the Juvenile Justice Education Centers. For over a decade now, she has been a fierce champion, protector, and guide for at-risk youth, ensuring every student has a safe, loving environment to unlock their untapped potential.

Ms. Henderson attributes her remarkable "staying power" to her faith, family, friends, and a persistent hope for a more promising day. While she notes these 50 years haven't always been perfect, she says they have been profoundly promising—and the appreciation of her students remains her ultimate reward.

Join us in celebrating a lifetime of selfless service! Drop a comment below to thank Ms. Henderson for the incredible legacy she has built in Lee County. 👇💙
