FROM PRESIDENT BOB LEWIS – N8GU

As the president of the Fort Myers Amateur Radio Club, I have a strong sense of pride today in the professionalism of our members involved with the emergency communications prior to, during, and after Hurricane Milton. Our affiliated organization, LeeARES, Inc, headed by EC Rich Schnieders – KR4PI, did a stellar job. I am sure that you all share the same sentiment.

I monitored the VHF/UHF communications throughout this event and the communicators did a fine job. The privileges we enjoy as amateur radio operators are reinforced by our participation in emergency communications. We are all aware of the amateur radio motto: “When all else fails… amateur radio.”

Thanks to all of our participants in the communications effort and also the listeners standing by to handle emergency traffic. 73

***CQ CQ CQ***
FMARC emergency group ALERT/ARES has been activated and deployed to our local area shelters, boots on the ground at home, and assigned for after storm service.

The local EOC is active and the Situation room is functioning to keep Lee County safe. Thanks to Dave Sheppard for sharing these photos! This is our radio room located at the Lee County Emergency Operations Center on Ortiz Blvd in Fort Myers, FL.

If you are stationed, comment your active duty stations with setups! Let's see where you are and how you're hangin'!

Please remember to identify yourself as required and maintain clear frequencies during this time so that emergency traffic and needs can be received promptly and efficiently. This is a great time to practice radiograms and how to send/receive traffic!

Make sure you are charged up, safe, and ready for this storm.
