The fire always gets a vote!

As much as we prepare to fight fires from the inside of the building, sometimes the conditions deteriorate or are far too advanced when we arrive.

Because of this, FMBFD companies recently trained on master stream deployment under live fire conditions at a vacant house on Ohio Street. Thank you to Woodland Builders.

Live Fire Training will be taking place today from approximately 09:00 to 12:00 on Ohio Street. The community may smell and see smoke as well as in increase in fire apparatus while the training is being conducted.

One of the most proven and effective ways to rapidly remove intense heat, smoke, and deadly gases from an upper-floor fire is to cut the roof.

Known as vertical ventilation, this tactic requires firefighters to work above the fire, using saws and hand tools to create an opening that allows heat and smoke to escape—improving conditions for firefighters operating inside and the victims they’re searching for.

If you have smelled smoke around the bay side of Ohio Street, it was likely our FMB firefighters training in a vacant house that is scheduled for demolition. They have been “responding” to different scenarios and handling the roles of the first arriving Engine Company. Thank you to owner Mr. Widmeir and Mr. Oben of Woodland Homes for the opportunity.

Earlier today crews responded to a reported structure fire in the area of 7831 Estero Blvd. Upon arrival crews were met with an involved trailer. The fire was quickly extinguished and no injuries reported.

If you live in or use a trailer, RV, camper, or other temporary housing:
• Don't overload electrical outlets
• Replace damaged cords immediately
• Keep combustibles away from electrical equipment
• Test smoke alarms regularly
• Store fuel and propane safely.

Fire prevention starts with small steps that can make a big difference.

Support 31 is a specialty vehicle staffed by 2 Fort Myers Beach Firefighters/Paramedics. It is a supplemental manpower unit located in the center-island firehouse. It is Advanced Life Support (ALS)- equipped and responds to medical emergencies, along with an FMBFD transport ambulance. When a fire incident is received, the crew becomes a 4-person company with Truck Co. 31.

Additionally, the fully customized Ford F250 vehicle carries specialized tools and equipment for advanced vehicle stabilization, complex extrications, along with electric vehicle (EV) and structure fires. It is lifted because it responds in the sand to incidents on our 7 miles of beachfront coastline. It has towing capabilities for new water rescue assets being placed into service at Station 31.

When you see them traveling up and down Estero Blvd., now you know what they’re up to…wave hello!

Fort Myers Beach is one of only two fire agencies in Lee County that provides Advanced Life Support transport medical service. To maintain our high-performance level of care, we have been conducting skills evaluations in cardiac arrest protocols, trauma intervention, drug assisted intubation and ultrasound assessments.

**Update** Crews from Iona McGregor Fire District and Bonita Springs Fire Control and Rescue District responded to the scene, and the fire is extinguished

Crews were dispatched and are on scene of a boat fire, which is located just east of Hurricane Pass. There was one occupant who sustained non-life-threatening injuries. We are monitoring the scene, and the Coast Guard is also monitoring the sailboat.
