PUBLIC SAFETY- NOT POLITICS
I am running for District Attorney because I want all the communities of northeastern Colorado to be safe places to live and to raise a family. The District Attorney is the chief law enforcement officer for the Thirteenth Judicial District (Morgan, Logan, Washington, Sedgwick, Phillips, Yuma and Kit Carson Counties) and is responsible for prosecuting all criminal case
s filed in courts of the district. The District Attorney must The office of District Attorney is a position of great responsibility and accountability to the communities served by the office and the person who holds that office must be someone who the public can rely on to excise the power an authority of the office in an appropriate and responsible manner while still ensuring public safety. As your District Attorney I will work to ensure public safety and accountability to the public through:
• Aggressive prosecution of violent crime and anyone who commits crimes against children, at-risk adults, and the elderly. The citizens of the Thirteenth Judicial District expect and demand that they will be safe in their communities from violent criminals and those who would pray on our most vulnerable citizens.
• Aggressive prosecution of drug dealers. Methamphetamine and other hard drugs are a plague that drag down our communities, and destroy lives and families. Drug dealers only care about making money and do not care about the lives they destroy while plying their trade. Prosecution of drug dealers has not been a priority of the current District Attorney. I will work closely with law enforcement to investigate and prosecute drug dealers.
• Restoring a strong relationship between the District Attorney’s Office and Law Enforcement. It is essential that law enforcement and the District Attorney work together to protect the public by ensuring that crimes are properly investigated and prosecuted. Under the current District Attorney’s administration this close working relationship does not exist. As your District Attorney I will restore this relationship.
• Protecting the gun rights of the citizens of the 13th Judicial District. As District Attorney I will not prosecute anyone for lawfully possessing a firearm or for lawfully using a firearm for self-defense.
• Improving communication between victims of crime and the District Attorney’s Office.
• Putting an end to commuter prosecutors who live outside of the 13th Judicial District. The current District Attorney allows several of her prosecutors, including her second-in-command, to live outside the judicial district. Anyone who prosecutes criminal cases in this judicial district and is paid by local tax dollars should have to live in this judicial district. As District Attorney I will require all employees to live within the judicial district.
