African Landing Commemoration Week brought our community together through history, culture, reflection and connection.
Throughout the week, visitors experienced drumming and dance, heard from descendants and community voices, explored genealogy and family history, shopped the Unity Market, and participated in programs that invited us to learn, remember and reflect together.
Thank you to our partners, our community and everyone who helped make this meaningful week possible.
The week culminated with the unveiling of the newest sculptures at the African Landing Memorial—honoring Antony, Isabella and their child William, while continuing the story of the men, women and children whose lives are forever connected to this historic place.
We invite you to visit Fort Monroe, experience the African Landing Memorial for yourself, and take time to learn more about the history that began here more than four centuries ago.
