Over the past two days, the 189th Infantry Brigade kicked off our Yearly Training Brief with energy and focus. We started strong with an intense PT session that set the tone for teamwork, resilience, and readiness across the formation.

Following PT, leaders conducted briefs alongside our Reserve battalion partners, reinforcing collaboration, shared understanding, and synchronized planning to ensure we remain mission-ready and aligned for the year ahead. The exchange of knowledge and perspectives strengthened our Total Force partnership and highlighted the power of working as one team.

We also had the opportunity to come together for a spiritual luncheon with our Chaplain, who spoke on the value a Chaplain brings to the unit—providing guidance, support, and a trusted presence for Soldiers and Families during both challenges and successes. ⚔️

189th Infantry Brigade Represented at 2026 Best Ranger Competition

This week, Major Isaias Lopez from the 189th Infantry Brigade took on one of the Army's most grueling challenges—the 42nd Annual Lt. Gen. David E. Grange Jr. Best Ranger Competition at Fort Benning, Georgia.

Competing as Team 40 alongside a fellow First Army Soldier, SFC Taylor, the team entered an event designed to test the full spectrum of Ranger skills: marksmanship, land navigation, water survival, obstacle courses, and endurance movements, all while carrying upwards of 80 pounds of equipment.

Of the 61 teams that began the competition, only a fraction typically make it to the finish line. Simply earning the right to stand at the starting line—as a Ranger-qualified Soldier who completed the rigorous selection and train-up—is an accomplishment worth recognizing.

While Team 40 didn't take home the title this year, representing the 189th Infantry Brigade and First Army on this stage speaks volumes about Major Lopez's dedication, physical readiness, and warrior spirit. The competition is designed to push even the most elite Soldiers to their absolute limits.

Please join us in congratulating Major Lopez on this incredible achievement and thanking him for bringing pride to the 189th Infantry Brigade.

Rangers Lead the Way.

💪189th Infantry Brigade Conducts Cold Steel PT Competition

This morning, battalions across the brigade came together on JBLM for the Cold Steel PT Competition—a true test of physical endurance, teamwork, and military knowledge.

Competitors moved through multiple stations, carrying a litter loaded with sandbags while completing 189-repetition exercises and answering general knowledge questions on training, MDMP, and Troop Leading Procedures. Teams navigated a one-rope bridge and tackled mystery events before crossing the finish line.

At the end of the event, 3-364th Brigade Engineer Battalion (Rampant) took the top spot, demonstrating exceptional performance throughout the competition. 🥇

Congratulations to all participants for the hard work and spirit of competition. Events like these enhance esprit de corps and strengthen our formations.
