Team Assault,
As most of you know, today is Assault battery’s final day and tomorrow our men will organize under Team Hammer. I wanted to take this last opportunity to express my sincere gratitude to all the Soldiers and Families of Team Assault.
You accomplished some amazing things in these past eight months as we prepared for inactivation. You recovered over $1 million in excess equipment through COPA and transferred over 1,500 major items and countless components to nearly every unit on JBLM. Over the course of three days you moved every major Artillery system we owned (almost $20 million worth) to Fort Carson with only two days notice. You completed a year’s worth of administrative work in a matter of weeks and ensured every one of the 74 Soldiers we transitioned was prepared. You trained for and competed in Operation Viking Frenzy; sweeping the competition and definitively proving the strength of Team Assault. Throughout all this you endured the ever changing inactivation concept, dealing with fluctuating dispositions, occasional “knee-jerk” requirements, and personal uncertainty about future assignments. I can only imagine the stress this placed on your Families and I am eternally grateful for, and inspired by, your patience and understanding.
I am exceptionally proud of all you accomplished and cannot appropriately express how truly honored and privileged I was to serve as your commander for this short time. In these eight months I have learned more from Assault Soldiers, NCOs, and officers than any other time in my career. I only hope that I was able to provide some measurable fraction of the immense motivation you provided me. Whether you continue to serve or transition into the civilian sector, I know every one of you will excel if you perform the way you did here, and I look forward to your future successes. While I am sad to see the end of Team Assault, I render the utmost gratitude for the privilege of serving as the final Assault Six.
