15th Military Police Brigade

15th Military Police Brigade Welcome to the official Army Corrections Brigade page where you will find news coverage! Colonel Robert L. The brigade was placed under the U.S.

On 15 June 1965, the 15th Military Police Brigade was activated in Frankfurt, Germany. Staver accepted the colors and command of the newly formed 15th Military Police Brigade, the first military police brigade activated in the United States Army. Army Area Command, and consisted of the 2nd MP Group and the 14th MP Group. The 2nd MP Group was moved from Frankfurt to Nurnberg and given responsibilit

y for six of the U.S. Area Command’s ten districts. When the 14th MP Group was activated in Mannheim during 01 July 1964, the 463rd MP Company (Es**rt Guard) and the 533rd MP Company, were both assigned to function separately under the 14th MP Group. In July 1969 the last large augmentation of the 15th MP Bde strength was added, in the form of four confinement detachments; the 43rd, the 50th, the 51st and 77th MP Detachments. Upon acquiring the stockades, the Brigade immediately undertook a comprehensive program of re-organization and coordination. The largest stockade was located at Mannheim. This facility was to receive all prisoners convicted and serving sentences of more than 30 days. Today the 15th Military Police Brigade will be reactivated and added back into the Army’s active rolls. Parallel with the Brigade’s lineage and previous oversight of confinement facilities and units – a large portion of the Brigade’s mission will be the same except on a much larger scale. The 15th MP Bde will be responsible for the United States Disciplinary Barracks (USDB) and the Joint Regional Correctional Facility (JRCF). The USDB, a Level III facility, is the only maximum security correctional facility in the Department of Defense and the place of confinement for male Army, Air Force, Marine Corps, Navy and Coast Guard service members, who have been convicted by General Courts Martial for serious offenses and ordered to serve sentences of confinement of over five years. The JRCF, a Level II facility, providing pre-trial incarceration and post-trial confinement for U.S. military prisoners ordered to serve sentences of less than five years. In addition, the Staff ensures the operation of both facilities where the protection of staff and inmates coupled with sound correctional treatment and programs is paramount to maintain good order and discipline, as well as reduce recidivism upon release from confinement with the end state of protecting local communities. The staff of the 15th MP Bde includes Army Officers of the Military Police Corps, Medical Services Corps, Chaplains Corps and Judge Advocate General Corps, along with Soldiers from 35 different military occupational specialties. The Staff is also comprised of over 160 civilians and liaisons from the Air Force, Marine Corps and Navy. This team of professionals provides a correctional program with which we are very proud.

On October 22nd, HHC, MWJRCF BN held the inaugural Top Dog Competition, showcasing their best correctional experts from across the formation to be awarded the title of 2025 TOP DOGS.

Five-member teams from each of HHC's three platoons rucked to and from the Army Corrections Brigade I/R Site and tested their skills across a series of corrections-focused lanes. Events included a forced cell extraction, area search, facility operations exam, and a collective board. This new competition marks a shift from previous Warrior Tasks-based Best Watchdog events, placing a stronger emphasis on the "prison business,” attention to detail, and corrections expertise.

At the end of a demanding day, Third Platoon “HELLFISH” emerged victorious. Congratulations to SGT Bobbit, SGT Casselman, SPC Crespo, SPC Perez, and SPC Thompson for earning the coveted distinction of 2025 TOP DOGS.

Outstanding work, HELLFISH!

📣 Honoring Tradition & Welcoming a New Chapter

On October 15th, we had the privilege of witnessing a historic moment for our military police community as we cased the colors of the 508th Military Police Detention Battalion and formally activated the Northwest Joint Regional Correctional Facility (NWJRCF) Battalion.

The ceremony highlighted over a century of distinguished service—spanning World War II operations, deployments in Iraq and Afghanistan, critical correctional missions, and the most recent deployment to Guantanamo Bay in support of Operation Southern Guard. The 508th’s Soldiers have continuously displayed professionalism, strength, and unwavering dedication to the mission.

As the colors were cased and the new guidon was uncased, we formally welcomed the NWJRCF Battalion under the leadership of LTC Michael T. Nicholson and CSM Tami J. Bethel. Soldiers across the formation proudly replaced their shoulder sleeve insignia, marking the beginning of this new unit’s legacy within the Army Corrections Brigade.

Thank you to our distinguished guests, leaders, Soldiers, families, and friends who joined us on October 15th to honor the past and celebrate the future.
