to May of last year, when the Broward MPO was awarded a $15.44M Federal Railroad Administration Railroad Crossing Elimination Grant to support the Sealed Corridor initiative. 🔙✨

This important funding is helping improve safety and mobility across Broward County by targeting 21 rail-road grade crossings along the Florida East Coast Railway and Brightline corridor. The project includes safety enhancements such as exit gates and raised medians designed to reduce unsafe driving behaviors near crossings.

This effort was made possible through strong collaboration with Broward County and the cities of Dania Beach, Fort Lauderdale, Hallandale Beach, Hollywood, Pompano Beach, and Wilton Manors, which collectively contributed $3.86M in matching funds.

Today, we continue building on this work by advancing rail safety improvements and strengthening our commitment to safer transportation systems across the region.

The project will improve nighttime visibility and create a safer environment for residents, pedestrians, cyclists, transit users, and motorists. Funded through a $3.9 million HUD grant, this initiative builds upon the successful Lyons Road Mobility Improvements completed in 2020.

Bus shelters are an important part of creating a more comfortable and accessible transit system, providing protection from weather and improving the overall rider experience.

In Broward County, public transit services are operated by the Broward County Transit (BCT). If you would like to request a bus shelter for your stop, here’s how the process works:

✔Confirm the bus stop is part of the BCT network by visiting the BCT website

📞 If eligible, shelter requests can be submitted by calling BCT Customer Service at (954) 357-8400

📧 Email inquiries can be sent to [email protected]

🏙️If the stop is not part of BCT, contact the local city’s Public Works Department for assistance
