I sat down with NBC 6 last week to discuss the City’s outreach efforts and how we’re educating the public about how property taxes are used.

This November, voters will decide whether to approve Amendment 3, which would increase the homestead tax exemption while also changing how certain property taxes are assessed and how local governments can use property tax revenue.

Thank you to South Florida Sun Sentinel's , for the opportunity to speak about the impacts of Florida's Live Local Act on Fort Lauderdale’s neighborhoods and the people who live, work and visit here.

Southeast 17th Street is a perfect example- It is already a heavily traveled, over-capacity roadway and an important connection for our neighbors, businesses and visitors. With four Live Local projects coming just blocks from the neighborhoods around 17th Street, the impact on an already strained area will be long-lasting, significant and far-reaching.

As I shared with the Sun-Sentinel, “Tallahassee is tying our hands and forcing the entirety of these projects, preempting density and height restrictions, eliminating community input and public hearings…”

These decisions don’t eliminate the impacts — they shift them onto our roads, utilities, schools, fire and public safety systems, and ultimately our neighborhoods and quality of life.

Thank you for helping bring this important conversation to our community and giving Fort Lauderdale neighbors a voice.

Last week, I finally had the opportunity to visit the Daisy Arts Center, a new arts and cultural hub in the heart of the historic Sistrunk community.

The center is fittingly named in honor of Daisy Sistrunk, who was known for opening her home to neighbors and artists and creating a space for connection and community.

During my visit, I also had the chance to see the “Where We Stay” exhibit, which honors the legacies of James and Daisy Sistrunk, the history of the Sistrunk community, and artists’ reflections on home and family.

Thank you to Hued Songs and the Daisy Arts Center for welcoming me. I am looking forward to returning. Stop by for the final showing this Saturday and experience this amazing facility yourself.
