Sexual assault survivors and their friends, Family and fellow Soldiers may not understand how people react during a traumatic experience. This can lead to self-blame and shame, or victim-blaming. Trauma responses are split-second, unconscious reactions made by our bodies. They include fight and flight, but also the less known freeze, collapse, or fawn reactions.

The U.S. Department of Defense (DoD) released the Fiscal Year 2021 Annual Report on Sexual Assault in the Military. It contains survey results, reporting data, and outcomes of military justice cases, as well as details on the department’s efforts to prevent and respond to sexual assault throughout fiscal year 2021.
