The 162nd Aviation Company (AML), later the 162nd Assault Helicopter Company, was one of the earlier aviation companies to arrive in Vietnam after the ground troop build up began in 1965. The company subsequently built a sterling record as an assault helicopter unit and has kept that reputation ever since. Cur

Soldiers from the 2-227th Aviation Regiment, 1ACB, 1st Air Cavalry Brigade from Fort Hood, Texas, stand ready to depart Fort Rucker’s Hatch Stagefield Sept. 5 for Homestead, Fla., where they will stage to provide support to the Bahamas, which was battered by Hurricane Dorian recently. Soldiers and aircraft of the 2-227th are TDY to the Home of Army Aviation in support of Army North’s Task Force 51 mission to support relief efforts. A portion of the unit’s Soldiers and aircraft left for Florida today, with the rest expected to depart in the coming days. (Photos by Jim Hughes)
