9 Critical Lessons from a Retired Navy Veteran.

In a powerful article for HPRC, Dr. Art Sipp, a retired U.S. Navy Chief Petty Officer, shares the hard-won wisdom that separates the average service member from the elite Tactical Athlete. It’s not just about physical strength; it's about a disciplined mindset.
Are you asking the right questions to unlock your full potential? Dr. Sipp’s lessons challenge us to look inward and take control of our growth. We’ve summarized his 9 points for you here.

1. Know Thyself!
Improvement begins with honest self-awareness. Know your own vitals, goals, and promotion requirements better than you know sports stats. Are you asking the right questions about your own performance?

2. Be Brutally Honest.
Acknowledge where you are right now versus where you want to be. Does that beer with friends bring you closer to your fitness goals? Align your daily choices with your ultimate destination.

3. Begin With the End in Mind.
You wouldn't start a road trip with no destination. So why live your life that way? Define your goals, write them down, and make a concrete plan to achieve them.

4. Keep the ONE Thing.
Once you have your primary goal, everything you do should support it. Whether it's earning a promotion or acing the AFT, direct all your energy toward that single purpose.

5. Sound Mind, Sound Body.
The ASICS brand name says it all: Anima Sana In Corpore Sano. Your brain needs fuel and training just as much as your body. What are you feeding your mind?

6. Embrace the Serenity Prayer.
Focus your energy on what you can change and have the wisdom to accept what you can't. To progress, you must fight for what's better for you, not just accept "the way we've always done it."

7. Choose Your Support Wisely.
Your support network can either build you up or tear you down. Share your goals with them.

8. Be Accountable.
Find an accountability partner who isn't afraid to tell you what you need to hear, not just what you want to hear. This honest feedback is essential for staying on track.

9. Know Your WHY.
Your life, or the lives of others, could be on the line. Your "why" is the deep-seated motivation that pushes you to be ready every single day.

🎉 Client Spotlight 🏃‍♀️

Congratulations to Geralda M. on achieving a personal record at her recent marathon! Her original goal was simple but powerful to finish strong and break the 4 hour mark and she did just that through consistency resilience and commitment to her health.

Geralda’s wellness journey goes far beyond race day. She shared that her lifelong goal has been to become healthier than she was growing up and now she is continuing that journey to set an active healthy example for her children. From significant lifestyle changes to discovering a love for running later in life her progress is a reminder that it is never too late to start.

💬 “Never give up. Set your mind to something and keep moving toward it. When you set goals for yourself, it helps your mind have something to look forward to. I’ve gone through so many unforeseen circumstances life would throw at me to try and stop be from reaching my goals. I’ve fallen down, had to get back up, dust myself off, and keep moving forward. Just tell yourself I haven’t done it YET. Things may not happen in the time you’ve wanted, but they can happen if you keep pushing forward.”

We are proud of Geralda for showing what perseverance and a commitment to wellness can achieve. Way to go! 👏

✨Client Success Story ✨
MAJ Brian Knight

Over the past year-MAJ Knight has improved his 5K time by over 3 minutes, increased overall strength, and decreased body fat percentage by approximately 18%! 🏃‍♂️💪🏻

Brian stated: “While the numbers are encouraging, I don’t define my success solely by the scale. What matters most is how I feel stronger, healthier, and more resilient both physically and mentally. “

We asked him, “What advice would you give others?”

He said, “Do not underestimate the importance of nutrition and rest. Consistency is everything. Results come from showing up day after day, even when motivation fades. Remember, physical fitness isn’t just about looking good; it’s about building a body that will carry you through life’s challenges with strength and confidence.”
