Shoshone-Bannock Wellness Center & Sports Complex By January 2010, the Council passed another resolution allowing for fuller development of the Wellness Center Plan.

The Tribal Health and Human Services Department initiated the concept of a "Wellness Center" in their 2000 strategic plan, as requested by the tribal community. In 2006, the Council approved the university-researched feasibility study to assess how a Wellness Center would serve the community's health needs and disparities, among them, heart disease and diabetes. About this time, the Council appoin

ted a coordinator who in turn, formed a committee, which evolved into a Board of Directors with By-Laws and Articles of Incorporation. Today, the Shoshone-Bannock Wellness Center & Sports Complex awaits confirmation for 501(c) 3 nonprofit status. A Project Manager oversees the design contract with FFKR Architects, and also oversees the Bureau of Indian Affairs' approval of an Environmental Assessment. The $25 million, 122,000 square-foot Wellness Center will reflect the proud tradition and culture of the Shoshone-Bannock People. A Capital Campaign underway seeks resources from the community, corporate, private and public grants. The board recently received a Tony Hawk Foundation Skate Park grant; construction will begin spring of 2012.
