The Fort Fairfield Police Department pauses to solemnly remember and honor the innocent lives lost, the families forever changed, and the extraordinary courage of the first responders who rushed into danger when the world needed them most.
Twenty-five years later, we carry forward their memory and stand united in our commitment to honor their legacy through service, vigilance, and community. We will never forget.

As election season ramps up, the Fort Fairfield Police Department wants to remind everyone about the rules surrounding political campaign signs.
Displaying a sign is a time-honored way for residents to take part in the political process and exercise their right to free expression. That right belongs to everyone, regardless of political stripes, and it relies on a basic community standard: respecting what belongs to others.
When people cross the line and start tampering with or stealing signs placed on private property, it stops being a political disagreement and becomes a crime. Landowners put those signs up with clear intent and permission, and messing with them violates both their property and their voice.
Depending on what happens, getting caught stealing or vandalizing signs can lead to legal trouble under Maine law:
Theft Charges: Taking a sign off private property can result in a theft charge. Depending on the sign's value, a Class E crime carries up to 6 months in jail and a $1,000 fine, while higher-value incidents can step up to a Class D crime carrying up to 364 days behind bars and a $2,000 fine.
Criminal Mischief: Vandalizing, defacing, or smashing a sign isn't just property damage—it’s a Class D misdemeanor that can mean up to 364 days in jail and fines reaching $2,000, plus having to pay back the owner for the damage.
Criminal Trespass: Walking onto someone else's land uninvited just to mess with their yard signs can layer on additional trespassing charges.

COMMUNITY ALERT: Phone Scam Spoofing Town Numbers

We have received reports from residents receiving suspicious calls showing "Fort Fairfield Public Works" on their caller ID. When answered, the caller falsely claims to be from the Internal Revenue Service (IRS) and demands payment.

WHAT YOU NEED TO KNOW:

✴The Town is not calling you for money. No department at the Town of Fort Fairfield will ever call you demanding payment or personal financial details.

✴We are not affiliated with the IRS or any other federal agency. No federal agency operates or routes calls through municipal town lines.

✴Caller IDs can be faked. Scammers use "spoofing" technology to make local municipal numbers appear on your screen to gain trust.

WHAT TO DO:

✴Hang up immediately. Do not engage, press numbers, or confirm personal information.

✴Never send payment via wire transfer, prepaid debit cards, or gift cards over the phone.

✴Please share this with local friends, family, and neighbors—especially older residents who are frequently targeted by phone scams. If you ever doubt the legitimacy of a call from the Town, hang up and dial our offices directly at (207) 472-3800.

Sgt. Cormier and I were honored to attend the Fort Fairfield Rotary Club meeting and breakfast this morning.
The relationship that we have with the Rotary Club is a valued partnership that helps promote our community service programs which aim to improve relationships and culture within our youth population.
Since the inception of the re-vamped DARE decision making model program at MSAD #20, the Rotary Club has been the financial foundation to ensure that the students receive all course materials and have a memorable DARE graduation. Rotary Club members also volunteer their time to assist with the program and graduation.
The Rotary Club also provides support with the bicycle rodeo and Riding with Jacob event during the Maine Potato Blossom Festival.
Our partnership is much appreciated and valued by our department and we look forward to working with you all for years to come.

This morning we honored the Fort Fairfield Police Department for all they do for our community.

Good morning. Today we have the privilege of recognizing Chief Cummings and the Fort Fairfield Department.

The Rotary has a guiding principle: Service Above Self. It is a reminder that we should look beyond our own needs and dedicate our time, talent, and energy to the well-being of our community.

That same principal is at also what guides Chief Cummings and the Fort Fairfield Police Department, but to an even higher degree. While Rotarians strive to meet this standard in our projects, the officers of the Fort Fairfield Police Department live out this motto every hour of every shift.

When a call comes in, you step into uncertainty, putting your own safety on the line to preserve the peace of our town. That willingness to put the safety of others ahead of your own comfort is the ultimate definition of Service Above Self.

We also extend our thanks to your families, who give you the support you need and often miss time with you when you have to answer emergency calls.

We are proud to partner with you in several projects. The DARE program has been a great success at our Elementary School, and we thank Sgt. Cormier for leading this. We thank Chief Cummings for his providing bike safety lessons at our Bike Rodeo, leading the Bike parade down Main Street, and running the Riding with Jacob program at the event.

We are greatly appreciative of all the Fort Fairfield Police Department does for this town. Rotary members, please join me in giving these officers a round of applause.

Fort Fairfield is a community of approximately 3,500 residents, bordering New Brunswick, Canada, and the communities of Caribou, Presque Isle, Limestone, and Easton, Maine.

We are a very progressive agency, fostering our employees’ specialty interests.

The Town offers lateral entry for full-time, experienced law enforcement officers, along with a comprehensive benefits package, including:
