TORNADO WATCH IN EFFECT THROUGH 3PM / POTENTIAL FOR SEVERE THUNDERSTORMS & GUSTY WINDS CONTINUES

A short time ago the National Weather Service issued a TORNADO WATCH for the greater upstate New York region (as well as in western Massachusetts and southern VT), including Washington County through 3:00 PM this afternoon.

A line of severe thunderstorms is expected to track from west to east across eastern NY into western New England late this morning into this afternoon capable of producing damaging wind gusts up to 80mph and small hail. WIND ADVISORY ISSUED, STORM POTENTIAL FOR TOMORROW
Wind advisories have been issued for most of eastern NY (including Washington County), as well as for Bennington and western Windham Counties in southern VT. Wind gusts of 40-50 mph are expected tomorrow in the advisory area, regardless of whether or not severe thunderstorms occur. These wind gusts could lead to some downed trees/limbs resulting in power outages. Additionally, there is a slight risk for severe thunderstorms tomorrow for all of eastern NY and western New England. Timing looks to be from late morning through early evening. The main hazard is damaging winds, but an isolated tornado can't be ruled out.

WIND ADVISORY DETAILS
A WIND ADVISORY has been issued for Washington County for tomorrow (Thursday) from 8:00 AM - 8:00 PM.
* WHAT...South to southwest winds 15 to 25 mph with gusts 40 to 50 mph expected.
* IMPACTS...Gusty winds will blow around unsecured objects. A few trees and large tree limbs could be blown down resulting in some power outages.
* ADDITIONAL DETAILS...Fully leafed out trees may result in more trees damage than in the cool season with similar wind gusts.
* PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS... Winds this strong can make driving difficult, especially for high profile vehicles. Use extra caution.

POTENTIAL FOR THUNDERSTORMS TODAY
There remains potential for isolated to scattered severe thunderstorms today with damaging wind gusts as the primary hazard. A Slight Risk (Level 2 of 5) for severe weather remains in place for most of eastern New York and western New England, though confidence in the severe thunderstorm threat is low.

Additionally, an isolated flash flood cannot be ruled out across the area given the expected capability of all showers and thunderstorms, regardless of strength, to produce moderate to heavy downpours.

MESSAGE FROM THE PUTNAM VOLUNTEER FIRE COMPANY & TOWN OF PUTNAM

This evening around 18:30 hours the Putnam Volunteer Fire Company was dispatched to County Route 1 (Glenbernie Rd) and Warrick Rd for water over the roadway. Apparently a beaver dam let loose on the mountain, causing the road to be shut down.

Due to the damage to the road County Route 1 is down to 1 lane between Warrick Rd and Schwerdtfeger Rd. County Route 1 is closed from Warrick Rd to Lake George way to all traffic except residence.

The Putnam Volunteer Fire Company is keeping a close eye on 2 other dams above Lake George Way South that could cause further damage to the bridge on Lake George Way South if they let loose.
