Alpine Troopers kicked off day one of our Best Scout Competition with a 6 mile ruck followed by scout skills testing. Soldiers demonstrated proficiency in a variety of tasks including call for fire, observation, tactical reporting, personal camouflage, casualty treatment, knot tying, and reconnaissance. Tomorrow the competition resumes at 0400 with land navigation!

Alpine Platoons squeeze every available second out of the day to ensure their Soldiers are trained and ready for the mission while also rewarding hard work. This week, 1PLT executed equipment and uniform layouts while 2PLT found time for some rappel training. Also, PFC Shirley was promoted to SPC and PV2 Gillentine to PFC!

This morning, LTC Anderson and CSM Keenan put on a squadron reconnaissance contest of wills between all the troops of 1st Squadron, 89th Cavalry Regiment. Alpine Troopers had to split up and find various objectives across Ft Drum utilizing the commander’s reconnaissance guidance such as finding the 2nd Brigade Combat Team, 10th Mountain Division Commander and CSM, taking pictures of various Fort Drum FMWR facilities, and racing bicycles. Alpine Troop completed the mission, including our own SSG Recine dominating the bike race! Also thanks to Provider 6 and Catamount 6/7 for the selfies!
