Fort Drum will observe quiet hours on Monday, May 26, Fort Drum will open 13 cemeteries for Memorial Day visitation. 10 cemeteries are accessible without entering the cantonment area.

Visitors wishing to pay their respects at cemeteries in Fort Drum’s range complex can do so from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. without a vehicle pass. Please follow posted signage and remain within cemetery boundaries.

For Cooper Cemetery, Quaker Cemetery, and the LeRay Mansion gravesite, a pass is required. These can be obtained at the Visitor Control Center (Lt. Gen. Paul Cerjan Gate) after a quick background check.

Dr. Laurie Rush, Fort Drum’s Cultural Resources Manager was in Paris last week. She met with the de Largentaye Family; Bertrand, Anne, and their daughter Marie.
Anne de Gouvello is a descendant of Amedee, son of Therese and Hippolyte. Therese was the daughter of James Le Ray de Chaumont. Together with her new husband, Hippolyte, she travelled with her father and served as his hostess at the Le Ray Mansion, which now stands on the Fort Drum installation.

Did you know . . .
Trillium are protected by law.
It takes 9 to 10 years after germination for a trillium to flower.
Trillium are propagated by ants.
The “tri” in the Latin word Trillium means three, referring to the plants 3 leaves, three petals and three stigmas.
If you pick a trillium bloom, the plant may not survive. When the plant blooms in the spring it collects all nutrients it needs in order to survive to the following year.

Walks around the mansion today:

Merry bells, Uvularia grandiflora, otherwise known as, Bellwort or Large-Flowered Bellwort is a perennial spring blooming native flower.

This 10-18” arched plant has yellow flowers and alternate leaves. This plant is loved by deer and is usually found in part to full shade.

It is a slow to propagate flower. Seeds can take 2-4 years until growth appears above ground.

Fort Drum officials invite the public to participate in the Around and About Fort Drum Tour on Tuesday, April 29.

The tour will offer participants a look at sites of historical significance around the installation, exploring our shared past. Participants will also learn more about the 10th Mountain Division’s current training as well as how Fort Drum is looking to the future here in the North Country.

The tour will begin outside the 10th Mountain Division and Fort Drum Museum at 10 a.m., returning participants to their vehicles by 3 p.m. at the museum parking lot. Attendees should be prepared to provide their own lunch and wear shoes and clothing appropriate for walking in outdoor conditions.

Seating is limited and pre-registration is required. For more information or to register, email [email protected] not later than April 15.
