Congratulations to the Atlas Soldier of the Month, PFC James Ocnys!

PFC James Ocnys is a hardworking, caring, compassionate, and exceptional Soldier. He is dedicated to his individual mission and the mission of Atlas Company. His adaptability and humble spirit is emulated by others around him. PFC Ocnys is married to Tyra and they have one child Micai who is three. The Ocnys Family enjoys traveling to new places together, spending quality time together, and they enjoy cooking.

Favorite Quote: The truth of the matter is that you always know the right thing to do. The hard part is doing it. – Norman Schwarzkopf, Jr

MOS: PFC Ocnys is a member of the Quartermaster Corps. The motto of the Quartermaster Corps is “ Supporting Victory.” PFC Ocnys became a 92a because of the mission set. An Automated Logistical Specialist 92a, similar to a laborer or freight mover, performs maintenance management and warehouse functions in order to maintain equipment records.

Personal Hero: Dieujuste Ocnys, PFC Ocnys’s Father, was from Lazil, Haiti. He was an extremely hard working and determined man who had a deep faith in God. Dieujuste passed away in 2011 after battling a year of illness. But his bravery is still emulated by PFC Ocnys today.

Funny Story: PFC Ocnys’s son Micai was hungry and grabbed some jello from the cupboard and climbed under the table to eat it. PFC Ocnys’s wife couldn’t find Micai anywhere and began frantically looking through the house. Then she went into the garage and realized the garage door was open and became frightened that Micai walked outside. She then quickly went inside and dropped something by the table. She looked over and there was Micai, eating jellow with no spoon.

PFC Ocnys‘s Advice for new Soldiers: “ Be respectful , do the right thing, maintain fitness, and ask questions.

Story: PFC Ocnys was walking through the snow back from the bank. While he was walking a Soldier pulled over and offered PFC Ocnys a ride home. This act of kindness meant a great deal and emphasized the importance of Soldiers helping Soldiers.

Atlas Team! Your hard work is essential to the success of the Brigade! Don’t forget to reach out to each other and connect!

This week’s note is to Follow up! When you identify someone is struggling or even if they are doing well it is essential to take time to check in on them. This means you set follow up sessions during PT, on a run, at lunch, during a change of command layout, or while working on a task together. Goal setting is part of this follow up. Carve out time —it is leader time after all!

Recently, our Petroleum Quality Analysis System Enhanced (PQAS-E) team was inspected by the Army Petroleum Center (APC). The lab performed at the top of the spectrum and was issued a B2 certification. This accomplishment is uncommon within the 18th Airborne Corps and the standard the Soldiers set will be emulated across the Army! As the only Certified PQAS-E currently in operation at Fort Drum we support all of the units that require testing across the division.

To highlight this accomplishment we did an interview with the three Soldiers who made this inspection successful.

Who works in the PQAS-E?
SGT Mahmoud Koroma
SPC Preston Baker
SPC Allaha Koffi

What is your three’s MOS?
92L- Petroleum Laboratory Specialist. Which is an MOS within the Quartermaster Corps.

What is your favorite part of your job?

Teaching the the customers, units supported, how the testing procedures work and more about the petroleum. Another favorite part would be the troubleshooting of the equipment.

What is the most challenging part of your job?
Maintaining the equipment is the most challenging part of the job. But troubleshooting it and working with the team makes us able to keep it FMC.

How many customers do you get a week?

12-20 samples a week.

What is a B2 certification?

Being B2 Certified means the lab can conduct a B2 test. Which is the highest level test the PQAS-E is able to conduct. The test is a wholistic look at the fuel and it’s ability to be used in equipment.

How does the processes of getting the certification look like?

The inspectors begin with looking at the equipment itself and then they tested the team on their ability to properly utilize the equipment and conduct all the test properly and successfully.

Why do you think you received the certification?

For SGT Korma this has been a goal since he came to 10th CAB. He has spent a great deal of time training and preparing his team. And luckily everything came together for the inspection!

Congratulations to the team! We are so lucky to call them Atlas Soldiers!
