Congratulations to Headquarters Battery, 1st Battalion, 194th Field Artillery soldier Sgt. Hannah Sievert for completing Basic Leaders Course (BLC) on the Commandant’s List and with honors! BLC is an intensive course and the first of leadership training where soldiers learn the fundamental skills needed to lead small teams.

Sievert, a weapons locating radar operator (13R) from Maxwell, Iowa, earned the Distinguished Leadership award for outstanding academic performance and exemplifying leadership qualities and the core Army values.

When asked why she joined the Iowa Army National Guard, Sievert reflected, “during my junior year of high school. I felt it was what the Lord was calling me to do— as though a significant part of what God was looking to do in my life lay in the military.”

Sievert's military experience has helped shape how she approaches civilian life, sharing, “In civilian life, it's easy to fall into a simple routine and forget what you're capable of until you put the uniform on and step back into that military mindset— the resiliency, the value in structure and discipline, the necessity for trust, teamwork, and consistent communication. These are just a few of the skills I attribute to the military for success in my college educational journey thus far.”

Finally, Sievert highlighted some of those who have supported her, “Both the Lord God and my family, especially my dad, have always been the biggest sources of support and continue to be even today.”

Medics with Headquarters Battery 1-194 Field Artillery are essential to the Thunder Battalion mission by providing lifesaving support throughout training and combat operations. Since arriving in theater, medics in “Havoc” Battery have continued sharpening their skills, through training including hot and cold patient loading, mass casualty simulations, and triage.

Shortly after arriving overseas, SPC Jayla Varner received a coin from 2/34th IBCT’s Command Sergeant Major Joshua Luck for completing titer testing, and for her outstanding dedication to the 1-194th Field Artillery.

Today as members of 1st Battalion, 194th Field Artillery pause to reflect on the lives lost on September 11th, 2001, and those who made the ultimate sacrifice in the years following. The command team offers these words for soldiers, families and friends…

“September 11th, 2001, the day that the world stopped turning.

No matter where you were, or what you were doing, everyone stopped as the unimaginable unraveled on United States soil. What seemed like a normal September morning quickly spiraled into a day that would awaken and shape the next twenty-five years of warfighters.

As we are deployed forward fighting for our freedom and the freedoms of our friends, family, and the American people… please take the time to remember. Remember those that lost their lives, remember those whose lives were forever changed with the loss of loved ones, remember the brave men and women who chose to save lives that day no matter the cost. Remember those who stepped up, took the oath and said send me. Remember why we serve; remember we are here to ensure a similar incident never happens again.”
