The 78th Training Division recently celebrated Maj. Alvarez’s distinguished career and lasting contributions to our nation. During the ceremony, Lt. Col. Scanlan delivered remarks highlighting Maj. Alvarez’s successful military journey, which included service in three branches: the U.S. Marine Corps, U.S. Air Force and U.S. Army Reserve.

Maj. Alvarez was joined by his wife and daughter for this special occasion as he closed out a remarkable chapter of service.

Thank you, Maj. Alvarez, for your dedication, leadership and commitment to the mission. We wish you and your family all the best in retirement.

In April, the 78th Training Division recognized two soldiers as they advanced in rank. 2nd Lt. Wadie was promoted to 1st Lt., and Sgt. 1st Class Vazquez was promoted to Master Sgt.

Vazquez was joined by his family during the promotion ceremony, underscoring the important role families play in supporting soldiers throughout their careers.

Promotions are more than a change in rank. They reflect dedication, leadership and continued service to the Army and the nation.

Congratulations to 1st Lt. Wadie and Master Sgt. Vazquez on this well-earned achievement.

Boating and Watercraft Safety 🛟

Lakes, rivers, and coastal waters offer great recreational opportunities, but boating requires preparation and respect for the water. Adhering to watercraft safety guidelines prevents drowning and serious mishaps.

⛵ Wear a Life Jacket:
Ensure every passenger has a U.S. Coast Guard-approved Personal Flotation Device (PFD) that fits properly. Most boating fatalities result from drowning, often involving victims not wearing PFDs.

🚣 Avoid Boating Under the Influence (BUI):
Alcohol affects judgment, vision, and coordination. The sun, wind, and the boat's motion can accelerate impairment.

🚤 Monitor Weather:
Summer storms roll in quickly. Check forecasts before departing and keep a weather radio handy to track changing conditions.

🛶 File a Float Plan:
Tell a responsible person your destination and expected return time. This ensures authorities are alerted immediately if you become overdue.

🛥️ Maintain Awareness:
Watch for other vessels, swimmers, and debris. Strictly adhere to all navigational rules and posted no-wake zones.
Equip Your Vessel: Ensure your craft is registered and carries the required gear, including flares, horns, and extinguishers. Confirm the operator is properly trained and licensed.

Proud to see the U.S. Army Reserve Command (USARC) making waves at the 2026 Lacerda Combatives Competition!

This was USARC’s inaugural year in this grueling Active Duty competition, and they definitely showed up to play. Competing against 21 elite teams from across the Army, the USARC team secured a 17th place finish, notably surpassing four Active Duty teams on the mats.

A huge shoutout to one of our very own, Lt. Col. Jesse Fu, for representing the 78th Training Division with grit and expertise. As a Jiu-Jitsu Brown Belt and Judo Orange Belt, Lt. Col. Fu brought serious technical skill to the fight and embodies the "Warrior Citizen" spirit we strive for.

It’s one thing to train; it’s another to step into a cage against the best in the business. Incredibly proud of the team for proving that the Reserves can hold their own anywhere, at any time.

Recently, the 78th Training Division gathered to celebrate a pivotal moment in leadership during the Headquarters and Headquarters Company (HHC) ceremony.

We bid a fond farewell to Capt. Edward B. Shull, whose dedicated service and leadership have left an indelible mark on this unit. As he moves on to his next assignment, we thank him for his commitment to the mission and the Soldiers under his command.

The 78th TD is proud to welcome Capt. Alicia N. Lee as she assumes command. We look forward to the vision and energy she brings to the formation as we continue our tradition of excellence in training.

Brig. Gen. Andrew F. Scarcella, Commanding General of the 78th Training Division, presided over the ceremony. He spoke high praise for both leaders, commending Capt. Shull for his steadfast performance and expressing full confidence in Capt. Lee’s ability to lead the unit into its next chapter.

Please join us in wishing Capt. Shull the very best in his future endeavors and welcoming Capt. Lee to her new role!
