Today marks the 82nd anniversary of D‑Day, the Allied invasion of Normandy on June 6, 1944. In one of the largest amphibious assaults in history, Allied forces fought through fortified beaches to begin the liberation of Western Europe.

The victory came at an immense cost. The courage and sacrifice of those who landed on Normandy’s shores continue to shape the freedoms we uphold and the values we defend.

This Wednesday, we’re highlighting the New Jersey Air National Guard’s own Master Sgt. Jason Harden, 177th Fighter Wing Chaplain Corps superintendent, who received the 2025 Air National Guard Chaplain Corps Minuteman Award during the May Unit Training Assembly. Harden was recognized for his exceptional response during a critical incident in Washington, D.C., where he provided continuous spiritual care to two wounded Guardsmen, their families, and their teammates.

Congratulations, Master Sgt. Harden!

This Wednesday, we’re highlighting a milestone for the New Jersey Air National Guard’s 108th Wing. Tech. Sgt. Christopher J. Langill, a long‑time Defender with the 108th Security Forces Squadron, earned his commission through the Security Forces Direct Commissioning Program, becoming the first Defender in the NJANG to commission through this pathway.

U.S. Air Force Lt. Col. Alvin L. Mallette administered the oath of office during a ceremony at the Joint Operations Center in Lawrenceville, marking a significant moment for the 108th Wing and the New Jersey National Guard.

Congratulations on your retirement after over 41 years of service Command Sgt. Maj. Mark A. Leonard!

CSM Leonard served as New Jersey's eighth State Command Sergeant Major from March 2022 until February 2026.
Leonard was born and raised in Rockaway, New Jersey. He enlisted in the Army Reserves in December 1984.
Before being appointed as the State Sergeant Major, Leonard served a year as the Senior enlisted advisor to the State Assistant Adjutant General Army.

Recently, four Soldiers from the Republic of Cyprus military came to represent their country with pride during the 2026 New Jersey Best Warrior Competition, held May 5–8. Their physical strength, tactical knowledge, and mental resilience was tested by the event. Congratulations to these outstanding competitors who showcased exceptional dedication on behalf of their units.

Brigadier General Yvonne L. Mays, The Adjutant General of New Jersey and Commissioner of the New Jersey Department of Military Affairs presented awards to these competitors, supporting 4 years of partnership between New Jersey and the Republic of Cyprus.

The Somerset Patriots invited U.S. Air Force Brig. Gen. Yvonne Mays, The Adjutant General of New Jersey, to throw our the ceremonial first pitch before their Military Appreciation game on May 17th.

Brig. Gen. Mays also gave remarks before the game to thank the Veterans and their families in attendance at TD Bank Ballpark in Bridgewater.
