A huge thank you to Weyers Cave Volunteer Fire Company for the opportunity to come out and train on vehicle extrication. It’s always valuable when neighboring departments can come together to sharpen skills and strengthen teamwork.
During the training, Rescue 10, Battalion Chief, and Rehab were dispatched to an incident in the Greenville area. Despite the reduced resources, members from Weyers Cave and New Hope adapted quickly and worked together using Engines 53 and 182 to successfully stabilize and remove a vehicle from the rear of a tractor trailer.
Trainings like this highlight the importance of communication, adaptability, and mutual aid between departments.

• New Hope Volunteer Fire Department (Engine 182, Rehab 1, 18-01)
• Augusta County Fire-Rescue (Rescue 10, Battalion Chief)
• Verona Volunteer Fire Company

There’s a certain kind of person who steps forward when others step back.

Joining a volunteer fire department isn’t about recognition, and it’s definitely not about convenience. It’s about heart. It’s about showing up on someone else’s worst day and being the reason they make it through.

It means late nights, early mornings, missed dinners, and long hours of training. It means pushing yourself physically, mentally, and emotionally. But in return, it gives you something few things in life can—purpose, brotherhood, and the pride of knowing you made a difference when it mattered most.

You don’t have to be perfect. You don’t have to know everything on day one. You just have to be willing—to learn, to serve, and to stand beside others who share that same commitment.

If you’ve ever felt the call to do more, to be more, to serve something bigger than yourself—this is it.
