It’s been a very eventful two weeks here at Battle Troop! On 13-14April, we certified squad leaders on dismounted live fire. On 16April, SPC Towah and PFC Legate were awarded Army Achievement Medals for all their hard work during the last quarter. SPC Lopez, PFC Richardson, and PV2 Eugenio earned Battle coins for showing initiative and aggressive effort during the Squad Live Fire Exercise. This week, Battle Troop took charge of a 7-day detail taking care of quarantined soldiers while also handling daily tasks. Let’s see what next week reveals!

Heavy Metal Monday this week comes flying overhead as the RQ-11B Raven aka “Raven”! This unmanned aircraft system (UAS) provides the small unit commander a responsive tactical Reconnaissance, Surveillance and Target Acquisition capability through real-time, full-motion video, and sensor data via the hand controller. Using the Electro-Optical/Infrared cameras, the Raven provides both day and night surveillance covering a range of up to 10 km for 90 minutes between an altitude of 300-500 ft. The only thing stopping this bird is a windy day ironically 💨🍃🙅‍♂️.

TGIF! The past two weeks have been nuts around here, but I’ll be brief: Last week, Battle Troop participated in Mortep (Mortar live fire) and Team Live Fire exercises. I believe the theme of the week in two words was “cold mud”, what with all the snow melting while we were out in the field. This week, our soldiers went out to the 240 and M17 ranges to get qualified. Preparations are also being made for the Squadron Spur Ride next week! Congratulations are in order for SGT Redlinger as well for being selected as the NCO of the Quarter. Way to go Sergeant! Well, another big week is coming for us, but we’ve got the weekend first. Until then, Scouts Out!

Battle Troop’s Soldier of the Week is Specialist Jacob Pendergrast. He has been with Battle for over two years now and currently serves as an 11C (Mortarman) driver in the Mortar Platoon. His hometown is Centralia, Missouri: a booming town of over 4,000 people! He joined the Army to explore new opportunities and see the world.

When Jacob isn’t hanging 120mm mortar rounds, he likes to hike and camp. He goes out almost every weekend! His favorite place to go is Rocky Mountain National Park and hopes to one day see all 50 states.

Heavy Metal Monday! This week, we are highlighting the CAV Scout’s prize possession of observation: the Long Range Advanced Scout Surveillance System, or the LRAS. The LRAS3 is a long range multisensor system designed for use by the US Army platforms in surveillance and reconnaissance missions. It provides real-time, day and night, in adverse weather conditions the capability to detect, recognize, identify, and pinpoint far target locations. The LRAS3 consists of a second generation FLIR, TV camera, GPS interferometer, and an eyesafe laser range finder. It can be mounted either on armored ground vehicles such as the HMMWV, M1, M2 and Stryker or used on a tripod for dismounted missions. Nothing gets past the LRAS!
