Today, thirty-two years ago on 20 December, 1989, 3-73rd first fought with the Devils, 82nd ABN DIV, and SOF during Operation JUST CAUSE. Operation JUST CAUSE also included elements of XVIII ABN Corps, 7th ID, elements of 5th ID, Air Force, Navy, and Marines. During this operation, the 82nd ABN DIV and 3-73rd found a way to Transform the Division by air dropping Sheridans into combat, living the motto “Airborne Thunder”. 3-73rd is the only unit to air drop Sheridans into combat.

Ladies and Gentlemen, on this day seventy-seven years ago the 756th Tank Battalion, one of the units preceding 3rd Squadron, 73rd Cavalry, landed near St. Tropez, France as part of Operation Dragoon during World War II. Operation Dragoon was part of the Mediterranean, Middle Eastern and European Theater for World War II. This Operation ended in a victory for the Allied Forces and German troops withdrew from most of Southern France.

Even though we aren't a tank battalion anymore, Devil Recon is proud of our unit's history and all it has accomplished.
