75th Ranger Medical

75th Ranger Medical This is the official page of the 75th Ranger Regiment Medical section. This page is to post news, events, and information related to combat trauma and medicine.

The Ranger Medic is a graduate of the 36-week Special operations Combat Medic (SOCM) course conducted by the Special Warfare Medical Group at the Joint Special Operations Medical training Center and certified as Advanced Tactical Paramedic (ATP). All assigned Ranger Medics are graduates of the SOCM course. The Ranger Medic works within an advanced scope of practice and unit protocols that include

Tactical Combat Casualty Care (TCCC), Pre-Hospital Trauma Life Support (PHTLS), Extended or Delayed Evacuation Casualty Care, Tactical Medical Emergencies, and sports/orthopedic injuries. When operating in the tactical or austere environment, the protocol allow the Ranger Medic to conduct medical care greatly exceeding the conventional medic capabilities. Ranger Medics employ a wide spectrum of pharmacological capabilities for pain management and antibiotics to manage combat trauma and medical emergencies normally managed by medical officers. Specialized medical equipment and supplies are employed by the Ranger Medic dependent upon evacuation modes, distances and capabilities. The Ranger Medic is expected to manage and package a multi-system trauma casualty for evacuation directly to a surgical capability. This requirement prompts a robust deployable medical kit to manage casualties in an austere environment without access to traditional equipment. The medical kit must include patient monitoring, warming, and carrying capabilities coupled with medications to manage a casualty for up to 72 hours.

So others may live. Great work by our Air Force brothers!

They parachuted into the Atlantic Ocean from a mere 1,400 feet in total darkness, with thousands of pounds of equipment and two boats. And that wasn't even the most incredible thing they did that day.

MSG Castillo, former 2/75 Ranger and a double amputee, currently serving on active duty as a representative of the USSOCOM Care Coalition, visited a Republic of Korea soldier who was wounded in an incident last month. MSG Castillo shared his story with the ROK soldier and his family.

MSG Castillo was seriously wounded near Mosul, Iraq Feb. 6, 2009 while he was on his 10th combat rotation. He was a platoon sergeant with Charlie Company and part of a joint task force that was in pursuit of a high-value target. The Rangers had dismounted and were approaching the objective on foot when they were ambushed. A command-detonated improvised explosive device hit Castillo.
