To the Soldiers of Battle Company, 1st Battalion, 28th Infantry Regiment,
The battalion will case the colors at 1100 hours on the 24th of March 2023 at Inouye Field beside the National Infantry Museum. This unit Facebook will no longer be regularly updated, but it will remain here for posterity.
The 28th Infantry will reactivate. History proves that it will. It has answered the call, in one capacity or another, in every major American conflict since 1901, always being pulled from retirement to do so. Soldiers are bound to bear our Black Lion crest in the future, and with that, some will breathe the motto “Battle Hard.”
Until then, this page will serve as a small commemoration to the legacy you all have forged as some of the finest fighting men in the United States Army. You’ve written the latest chapters of a long, storied lineage and should be enormously proud of your service and contributions as the 1% who defends freedom and our way of life the world around.
Finally, given the circumstances of our inactivation, I want to say to you what I wish I could have, in mass, in person, in a huddle in front of our COF:
Thank you.
My time as your commander has been some of the most cherished of my life and always will be. I’ll never get to do this job again. I got to do it with you, the best in the business. I leave here humbled by your sacrifices, your commitment to serve and the level at which you performed. Exceptionally.
No matter what you do next, wherever you’ve gone, or will go, Battle Hard.
