Keep the Holidays Merry & Bright — Not Risky! ✨🎄

The National Fire Protection Association (NFPA) reminds us that festive decorations, twinkling lights, and cozy candles can bring joy, but also increase fire risks if we’re not careful. Celebrate safely this season!

🔥 Holiday Fire Safety Tips:

Check your lights: Inspect strands for frayed or pinched wires before hanging. Replace damaged ones.

Water your tree: A dry Christmas tree can ignite in seconds. Keep it fresh and hydrated.

Be candle smart: Place candles at least 12 inches away from anything that can burn, and never leave them unattended. Consider flameless, battery-operated candles for the same glow without the risk.

Cook with care: Stay in the kitchen when frying, grilling, or broiling. Unattended cooking is a leading cause of holiday fires.

Turn it off: Always switch off holiday lights before going to bed or leaving home.

🎁 Let’s protect what matters most—our families, homes, and holiday memories.

On October 25, a local angler fishing near River Bend detected a potential submerged vehicle using a fish finder and immediately reported the sighting to authorities. Divers were dispatched to confirm that no individuals were inside the vehicle. We extend our appreciation to community members who contribute to public safety through such vigilant actions.
“See something, say something!”

On November 21, the Fort Benning Fire and Emergency Services utilized this incident as an opportunity for a comprehensive training exercise. In collaboration with multiple agencies, FBFD divers demonstrated their expertise by securing four lift bags to buoy the vehicle, winching it to the boat ramp via Rescue 6, and subsequently loading it onto a wrecker for removal. Hazardous materials booms were deployed to mitigate any fluid leaks, thereby safeguarding the environment throughout the operation.

This initiative underscores the department’s capabilities, dedication to preparedness, and emphasis on interagency collaboration in addressing real-world challenges.
