We join the U.S. Army in honoring the heroes of D-Day! Almost 133,000 troops from the United States, the British Commonwealth, and their allies, landed on D-Day. Casualties from these countries during the landing numbered 10,300. Fighting by the brave soldiers, sailors, and airmen of the allied forces western front, and Russian forces on the eastern front, led to the defeat of German N**i forces. This weekend, our Nation pauses to observe Memorial Day. It is a day of solemn remembrance for the men and women who gave their lives in defense of our country. For those of us within Army Medicine, it is a time to reflect on the significance of our mission and the high cost of the freedom we protect.

We are the keepers of a sacred promise: to be there for our Soldiers on their worst days. Today, we honor those who fell while fulfilling that trust.

This year, I ask you to remember Major Cody Khork, assigned to the 103rd Sustainment Command, who was killed during a drone strike on March 1, 2026, in Kuwait at the Port of Shuaiba during an unmanned aircraft system attack.

He was previously assigned to Fort Stewart’s Soldier Recovery and later deployed to support Epic Fury in Kuwait where he was killed.

MAJ Khork (posthumously promoted) commissioned as a Military Police Officer where bravery is the embodiment of the "Soldier’s Creed." He gave his life so that others might live. His sacrifice, and the sacrifice of every medical professional and warfighter who never returned home, is the foundation of our Nation's strength.

As you spend time with family and friends this weekend, please take a moment to honor the memory of MAJ Khork and all our fallen heroes.
