Robotics and automation expert Terrence Southern, owner of Robotopia, discussed how jobs are evolving and how digital, technical and problem-solving skills are very valuable when he spoke at a Tech and Innovation Workshop Series event on Monday.

Forney Economic Development’s partnership with Robotopia will continue on Monday, May 18, with “North Texas Manufacturing Future Forum: Robotics, AI & the Next Industrial; Shift,” which will be held from 10:30 am. to noon at 210 S. The Small Business Series, presented in partnership between Forney Economic Development Corporation and Prairie View A&M University – Extension, Community and Economic Development Unit, will continue with “The Ins and Outs of Financial Statements” on Monday, May 18, from 8:30 a.m. to 10:00 a.m. (This program will be followed at 10:30 a.m. with a Forney Tech and Innovation Workshop Series program.)

On Monday, in the second workshop of the Forney Tech and Innovation Workshop Series, robotics engineer Terrence Southern discussed when companies automate, how to calculate companies’ gains from automation and when they are less likely to consider automation to have a good return on investment.

The series will continue on May 11 with “Robots, AI & Jobs: What’s Really Changing—and How to Win in the New Workforce Economy.” This workshop will be at 8:30 a.m. to 10:00 a.m. at 210 S. Bois D’Arc St.

“North Texas Manufacturing Future Forum: Robotics, AI & the Next Industrial Shift,” the fourth workshop in the series, will be at 10:30 a.m. on May 18, following a Small Business Series program at 8:30 a.m.

The Forney Economic Development Corporation Business of the Month for May 2026 is Peach Cobbler Factory - Forney, TX.

This business, located at 512 W. U.S. Highway 80, opened in April and held a Grand Opening on Sunday, April 26. The Forney EDC is partnering with this business and has provided a Façade/Interior Incentive and a New Business Entrepreneur Incentive.

The Peach Cobbler Factory serves desserts of all kinds. In addition to peach cobbler, you can order a cobbler of blackberry peach, strawberry peach, mango peach, cinnamon peach praline or even blackberry or caramel apple or other options.

The Peach Cobbler Factory also prides itself on its banana pudding, which can come in original or many combinations, such as chocolate chip, cherry swirl, bourbon pecan or coconut cream.

Other dessert options include ice cream, dessert flights, cobbler shakes, pudding shakes, cookies, cinnamon rolls, cheesecake, churro sticks and brownies.

Robotopia's Terrence Southern, who is a robotics engineer and has installed robotics in many companies, spoke at the Forney EDC on Monday about the need for businesses, from manufacturing to construction, to incorporate robotics to remain competitive in the modern economy. He also spoke about the importance to workforce development of learning robotics.

This was the first session of the Forney Tech and Innovation Workshop Series. The next session, "From Manual to Machine: A Practical Roadmap to Robotics Without Breaking Your Business," will be on Monday, May 4, from 8:30 a.m. to 10 a.m. at the Forney EDC Business Center and Office, 210 S. Bois D'Arc St.

This program is part of the Small Business Series, presented in partnership between Forney Economic Development Corporation and Prairie View A&M University - Extension, Community and Economic Development Unit. The next program in this series is "The Ins and Outs of Financial Statements" on Monday, May 18, from 8:30 a.m. to 10 a.m.

Additionally, the Forney EDC has launched the Tech and Innovation Workshop Series in partnership with Robotopia. The first session will be "Automation or Extinction: How North Texas Manufacturers Stay Competitive in the Next 5 Years" and will be held Monday, April 27, from 8:30 a.m. to 10 a.m.
