One of the first signs of heat illness is muscle cramps, so if you start cramping up it's time to act:

โ€” Get someplace cooler, stat โ˜ƒ๏ธ
โ€” Remove excess clothing ๐Ÿ‘‹
โ€” Drink a cool sports drink ๐Ÿงƒ
โ€” Avoid caffeine/alcohol ๐Ÿšซ๐Ÿธ

Seek medical help if your cramps don't go away in an hour, you have heart problems, or you are on a low-sodium diet.

The Eldredsville Volunteer Fire Company is proud to congratulate member Ava Lund on becoming a National Registry Certified Emergency Medical Technician (EMT).

As many know, the spirit of volunteerism is facing challenges, and rural fire companies like ours are actively seeking more EMTs to enhance our ability to serve the community. Ava is a tough hard-working young woman who has been very active in our fire company over the last year. We commend Ava for stepping up to meet this need, and we wish her great success in her journey within Emergency Medical Services (EMS). We know she will do well.

Having more emergency medical service providers is crucial for our communityโ€™s safety and well-being. If youโ€™re interested in making a difference and volunteering, we encourage you to contact us or the Sullivan County Department of Emergency Services.

This morning, Ambulance 56 kicked off "EMS Safety Tuesday" with a special mission. While on our their way to Laporte, the crew helped a resident of Elkland Township, Mr. Snapping Turtle, safely get off the road. After that, Amb56 headed over to the Sullivan County Courthouse for the Annual National EMS Week and National EMS for Children Day proclamations. A huge shoutout to the Sullivan County Commissioners for taking the time to honor all of us in Emergency Medical Services!

Later on, Amb56 stopped by the Darway Rehabilitation and Healthcare Center, where they recieved a lovely gift basket in celebration of National EMS Week. What a busy and rewarding day!

Happy National EMS Week! ๐Ÿš‘

This evening, members attended the 4th Annual Sullivan County EMS Awards Banquet. The EVFC is proud to have two 2026 award recipient's.

Ambulance Captain 56, Mariah Fowler gladly presented the award for Sullivan County EMT of the Year to EMT Donnie Armes.

Donnie became a member of Station 56 in 2006 and since has been a vital part of the fire company. The last few years Donnie has been our top responding EMT, responding to 97% of our emergency incidents. Donnie is also Ambulance Captain 54. Without him the north-west area of Sullivan County would struggle to transport patients to a higher level of care.

EVFC President, Mike Scott presented Mariah Fowler with the award for Sullivan County Volunteer of the Year.

Mariah volunteers as Ambulance Captain 56, EVFC Secretary and Treasurer of the Sullivan County EMS Council. Mariah has been a part of EMS for 9 years as an EMT and continues to help the community with her time and dedication.
