We just received a great note from our GWTS Operations Team:

Kudos to all Forest Lakes residents for the amazing work you've done cleaning up your properties and helping keep Forest Lakes firewise and safe. Your efforts make a tremendous difference in reducing wildfire risk and maintaining the beauty of our community.

Based on the data we've kept, most Forest Lakes residents have completed their cleanup efforts for the year. The decrease in incoming loads tells us that you have been serious about getting the job done early in the season; more time to relax and enjoy our beautiful forest community.

Firewise Update –
The most recent revision to the Forest Lakes Firewise Action Plan is now available at https://flfdaz.com/firewise. Many thanks to Dino Cerchie for pulling together this comprehensive coverage of everything that “Firewise” means for our community.

Residents that have turned in the 0 to 5 ft inspection or the 5" or less ponderosa tree removal inspection forms can expect the inspections to be conducted next week so that you'll be eligible for one of the 5 $100 gift cards or the pole saw award.

Mark your calendars for the monthly Firewise program updates on Saturday, June 20. An update will be provided at the Fire District Board Meeting which starts at 10am at the fire station, and also following the community FLOA meeting at 2pm at the Community Center.

FIRE DISTRICT OPEN HOUSE
All are invited!
Saturday, June 27 from 10 AM - 1 PM at the Fire Station

Representatives from our neighboring organizations related to fire and emergency response will be on hand with handouts and goodies, plus free hot dogs, chips, popcorn and drinks, compliments of our Fire District! The emergency vehicles will be open (kids young and old can check them out!) and you can meet our First Responders. A more detailed flyer will be forthcoming. Come on out and enjoy!

Red Flag Warning for Monday and Tuesday in Forest Lakes. Green Waste Transfer Station will therefore be closed both days.

Windy and dry weather will persist Monday and Tuesday with additional critical fire weather, especially from the Mogollon Rim and White Mountains northward.

When a wildfire approaches, every second counts. By creating Defensible Space, you aren't just protecting your home—you’re providing a safer environment for firefighters to do their jobs effectively. 🛡️👨‍🚒

Follow these essential steps to "harden" your property today:

✅ Clear the Perimeter: Remove dry leaves, pine needles, and flammable debris at least 30–100 feet from your home. This helps keep ground fires from reaching your structure.

✅ Move Combustibles: Shift wood piles, propane tanks, and grills at least 30 feet away from the house. These can act as fuel "bridges" that bring fire right to your doorstep.

✅ Prep Your Gear: Keep a long garden hose connected and ready to go. It can be a vital tool for dousing small embers before they ignite.

✅ Visibility Matters: Ensure your address and driveway are clearly marked with reflective numbers. If firefighters can’t find you quickly in the smoke, they can’t help you.

The Green Waste Transfer Station was closed briefly due to muddy conditions caused by our recent rain. It has dried enough now to reopen with normal hours (8am-3pm) on Thursday, May 28.

Thanks to the FLFD Auxiliary and the Forest Lakes community for another awesome Ice Cream Social today. In addition to enjoying great ice cream and a fun social event, we also raised money for our drone project. We will do it again on 4th of July weekend!
