This Week, We Kicked Off Our Citizens Police Academy!

On Tuesday evening, officially welcomed participants to the 2026 Citizens Police Academy. The first session provided an opportunity for residents to meet department personnel, learn about the academy program, and begin building stronger connections with the officers who serve our community.

Over the next several weeks, participants will gain firsthand insight into various aspects of law enforcement, public safety, and community policing through interactive discussions and hands on learning experiences.

We appreciate everyone who chose to take part in this year's academy and look forward to continuing the conversation as we learn from one another and strengthen our partnership with the community.

Today, Lt. Grooms and Coach the Comfort Dog had a wonderful time attending Career Day at J.P. Ryon Elementary School- Home of the Cardinals!

Students had the opportunity to learn about careers in law enforcement, public service, and the important role police officers play in serving and protecting the community. Coach brought plenty of smiles, comfort, and excitement as students interacted, asked questions, and took photos throughout the event.

Thank you to J.P. Ryon Elementary School- Home of the Cardinals for the invitation and warm welcome. We always enjoy engaging with and inspiring the next generation of leaders!

Earlier this month, Lt. Grooms and Coach, our comfort dog, responded to an individual in crisis on the Woodrow Wilson Bridge.

Through compassion, patience, and human connection, a difficult situation was brought to a safe and peaceful resolution. We are proud of the professionalism, empathy, and care shown during this incident and grateful for the teamwork displayed by all responding agencies.

This moment serves as an important reminder of the impact that kindness, communication, and mental health awareness can have during times of crisis. 💙👮🏾‍♂️

During Teacher Appreciation Week, the Command Staff visited schools throughout our jurisdiction to show appreciation and support for the dedicated educators who help shape the minds of our future leaders.

We are grateful for the opportunity to recognize the hard work, patience, and commitment our teachers demonstrate every day in and outside of the classroom. Their impact on our community does not go unnoticed.

We would also like to extend a special thank you to Papa Johns Pizza for supporting this effort and assisting with deliveries to each school on our behalf. Partnerships like these continue to strengthen the connection between our schools, local businesses, and public safety professionals.

Thank you to all educators for everything you do for our students and community.
